rear Diff Needs replacement ... Safe to drive?
I am waiting for LR to get stock of rear diffs as mine has the 'noise'. However, I am off to the Alps soon and unlikely to get the car in to the garage beforehand (it will be doing a fair few miles before the big run).
So ..... I am told that there is no problem driving with the problem, but just after any knowledge of whether the known whining sound is something that will eventually / possibly result in me being stuck on a French autoroute awaiting a tow truck.11 HSE Santorini Black

I've had a couple of rear diff replacements ...you will be fine unless the sound becomes noticably worse or turns into a grinding noise. If it fails and you don't notice sound changes, then another clear sign of trouble is molten metal running into the gutter from underneath the vehicle . Get recovered at this point
In truth you can run for some considerable time, my first was replaced 5 months after the first whine appeared...the second 3 months after first whine.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Just had both front and rear diffs replaced under warranty, they where both making a low pitch rumble for about 20,000 mile before LR conceded and agreed that they had failed.Club Exped trailer

I'll put a camera under the car and keep an eye out for hot metal dripping onto the road as i race down the Autoroute D'Anglais. Perhaps if I put a mold under the car I could make some statutes?11 HSE Santorini Black

philthejono, if you could get a hold of the moulds used for the pewter D3 statues you could make a few yourself. Probably sell them for $$$$$$$$ given the authenticity.16 D4 Landmark

I ran my rear diff for about 3-4 months once I noticed the noise before being replaced, On my motor the noise did not get any worse - I guess if it does then stop using it.
