Rear fog lights problem after tow bar electrics fittement

Hi Guys,

Looking for a good soul who would check their GAP IID level settings and have 13 pin tow bar electrics installed and with properly working rear fog lights.

My D4 got Brink tow bar electrics have fitted and all works fine but the rear fog lights part.
It is MY10 in US spec (NAS) aka LR4. Rear fog lights did work without tow bar electrics fitment.
The way it is fit is that signal comes through 4 & 6 pin connectors on the left side of the cargo (fed to 2 -> white) and if trailer electrics is not attached it feeds rear fog lights via 2a (pictures attached).

Checking voltage with switch on, there's no voltage on the white wire 2. So it all looks like it is just not provided by the car. As part of troubleshooting, it has been verified that lamps do work still and the voltage is supplied on the direct plug, but not the one for trailer socket.

This led me to the fact that using GAP IID maybe settings were chosen incorrectly?
Attached is picture of current one, but I've tried 2 other with same effect.

Thanks you in advance for help.

Are you saying that the fog lights on your vehicle don't work when you plug in your trailer? If so then that's how they work there not supposed to come on only the trailer fogs should light up
 please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick,thankyou

I also have the Brink electrics and just checked my fog lights, they work fine when no trailer connected and are disabled when a trailer is hooked on... exactly as they are supposed to... the idea of disconnecting them with a trailer on is so your not lighting up the front of your trailer (or caravan) with red light when it’s foggy.. no one behind you would (unless you have a very small trailer) be able to see them anyway...

I checked my IID and for some reason I don’t have the options you do, just a confirmation that the towball is fitted

@nightcat - thank you very much.

I don't have rear for lights on with or without trailer connected when Brink wiring is connected. With Bink connected, car rear fog light is powered up by wire from the tow socket (2a) which gets the feed from (2) which originally comes through white wire from 4&6 pin socket for connecting tow electrics.

Rear fog lights are not powered through that hence my suspicion is on the CCF.
The only time when I get rear fog lights is connecting rear lights straight without that Brink pass through which effectively cuts the fog part to have that dependency on/off for fog lights with trailer connected or not.

Weird that I have more options. Which year is your car?
If you'd go, one level higher - do you have more "trailer" related settings?
Could it be cause it's HSE/NAS in my case?

I think on the 13pin socket it has a switch which the when a plug is connected opens contact might be sticking.

@Irovy, I have a 2006 D3 (LR3 to those across the pond) which might explain the differences between this and your LR4... I don't have any other options above this in the menu....

Just to be clear you are getting no fog lights at all (either with or without a trailer attached) unless you disconnect the tow bar wiring ? Is this correct? When you disconnect the wiring your fog lights return ?

I've checked that the feed from the car (pin 2) is not powered - checked that on the wire side - didn't verify at car socket level in the 4&6 pin socket in the trunk - but honestly don't expect it to be a wire problem and suspect CCF problem.

Yeah, D3 vs D4 might explain the difference in IID options.

Yes, to the second one too - as soon as the tow bar wiring is put in place - no rear fog lights. If connected straight - all works. All in all - it tells me there's no power going out of the car to the tow bar for rear fog lights (with or without trailer plug connected and also trailer doesn't get fog lights power either - this is how I've discovered that it doesn't work as part of MOT check for the tow bar wiring).

Wires

Hi there, I fitted an after market kit. It had a bridging wire harness about 120mm long that fitted between the tow electrics and the light clusters.

When fitted my fogs just would not work. When not fitted they worked fine. I just left the bridging harness out and everything worked as it should on the car and on the trailer.

My tow bar fitment was enabled in the car config.

Looks to be the same set up as I fitted (mine is twin socket though) I would suggest trying it without the links.

I have used it with three different trailer boards and it is all working as it should.

Thank you very much.

It seems to be this exact problem - don't know why my search didn't get with that result.

I'll give it a try disconnecting that pass-through portion.

The only problem I'm facing now is how to trick the car that trailer is connected as I don't have anything to connect - do you know which pins would I have to shortcut or put a resistance in between?

Thanks again for help.

Thank you. I'll remove the pass-through part, re-configure it back to as thought it should be and will test it at MOT place.

charlietortoise, thank you very much again.

For the moment pass through is removed as we drove for some summer break. Once will be back will go to MOT guy to test if rear fog light works now.
Based on the links above provided seems to be the situation that D4 is the smart-ass beast and discover if trailer socket is occupied at ignition on time and adjusts which wire rear fog light signal is raised on.

Thanks again for all the help guys!
