Yep agree CC, reckon the Defender is going to fit in between the DS and D5 ......
....... but much, much closer to the D5.

I'm imagining a D5, 10% smaller, with round headlamps and a partially offset rear plate, with very wide 22" rims and ultra low profile knobblies. The car has been ready for 12 months, but they're still hunting for a tyre manufacturer that'll take them seriously...

I'm so glad i didn't feel tempted to buy this D5 in the first place, mainly for it's awfull looks and characterless presence (just another SUV amongst SUV's)...but now, after reading some very worrying posts from D5's owners in the D5 forum, i'm convinced i've made the right decision.

Sales seem also to be struggling here in France.
I drove from France to Portugal for Easter holidays and back. Crossed nearly three whole countries from north to South (3.200km). Didn't see a single D5. Embarassed

Only problems on the cars with all the nonsense tech Wink

A month into ownership with the D5, no return visits to the dealer, long may it continue, but it is a LR so who knows.

A month into ownership with the D4, suspension bushes on the rear needed greased, temperature display over reading and tailgate needed adjustment.

and the D3, well, best not go there.

So far I'm happy with it, it's far from perfect but I've no major gripes with it. Getting along better with this than I did with the DS, it lasted 6 months then it had to go.

I saw one today with a cut down rear plate mounted centrally and the LR badge moved to the left, whilst not perfect it looked much better than the offset standard plate Thumbs Up

This is sad to be honest... Sad

Seeing D5 owners, who paid a fortune for the car, having to improvise and use their imagination just to try making it's rear end look acceptable. I hope Gerry McGovern reads this forum so maybe he'll stop being so pretentious...

This is my last post on the D5. My disappointment with this model is turning into anger. I don't want to add any more grief to D5 owners... Embarassed

Happy D5 driving! Thumbs Up

Cut down rear plate

Done a bit of "reconfiguring" of the rear number plate size - as in reconfiguring with aid of hacksaw and sandpaper. 430x150mm is what you see here which I understand is fully compliant as it retains the necessary gap from the lettering to the edge of the plate.

Think this looks pretty good and makes the whole rear end look much less awkward than with a standard sized plate.

What do others think?

I prefer the standard though to be honest it's never really caused me much anguish. It is what it is.
