Rear PDC ~ Manual Box

Having searched through the archives I can't seem to find much info on issues with manual boxes, plenty on Auto ones.

Are the issues with the rear PDC the same solutions as the auto box?

Problem is:

The rear PDC only comes on once the park break is released and then 9 times out of 10 it comes on a a continous solid tone. I have scrubed the sensors a few times but this doesn't seem to make any difference. and then every 1 in 10 times it seems to function fine Confused

Any tips on what to present my dealer with to make sure they correctly solve the problem would be much appreciated.

Jim, the PDC's front & back, auto or manual will only function once the park brake is released, similarly, they switch off when the park brake is engaged. it's possible that some road salt has started to crystallise inside one of the sensors, try flushing them with water - a hosepipe will be fine but not a jetwash! to a certain extent, ultrasonics are self cleaning but sometimes need a little help

Jim, you can also 'provoke' a self clean by turning the ignition on, putting the car in reverse and letting the handbrake off..... and turn up the stereo for a few minutes to drown out the beeping Wink

Well that's them well watered.

Initial thoughts are that it does seem a lot better, although still solid tones at random intervals, guess s more prolonged water attack would help.

Will try further watering another time, maybe even treat it to some warm watering Wink to see if that helps disolve the issue.

Quick spot of reversing at Tixover, managed to hit a rather pointy rock. Hit it dead centre on the recovery point, cover was off anyway, no damage done.

Stupid thing is I'd seen the rock on the way up the mound we went up onto so I was prepared for it but then I discovered the parking sensors don't really allow for pointy things and warned me a bit too late. Hence in the space of about a second I got Beep Beep Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep Bang Razz

Wanted to say this for a while - I think the whole parking sensor system is flawed on the Disco. I was used to the one from the Peugeot and I bumped into the rear car because it activates only after the LR moves! If you are really close to the car in the back, the movement needed to deactivate the parking brake is enough to knock the other one... I think the sensor should activate as soon as one selects reverse...
I also have a question about the brake. It's very confortable to stop at the red lights and leave the gear selector in D and simply activate the parking brake, but doesn't this affect the engine/transmission etc.?

At tickover there should be no adverse effect upon the engine or transmission.... although your fuel consumption will suffer

Deactivate it manually before moving like us with manual gearboxes do, you don't have to wait for the auto deactivation The End
