Rear prop shaft
I need to replace my rear prop shaft as the centre bearing is pretty non-existent. Someone recommended GKN to me, but that comes at quite a price premium.
Any thoughts on cheaper alternatives, or is it a mistake to go down that route?

Several guys on here have successfully repaired the rubber on the centre bearing . Main problem with cheaper types seems to be the shafts are not balanced correctly and the ones that are don’t seem to have a long life compared to OEM. You could always consider a breakers yard.It can when others can't,

My experience would say I'm not sure. The original prop on my car lasted 10 years and 112k miles. I replaced it with one advertised as 'OEM GKN rear prop' It lasted less than 5 years, and 40k miles. Whether it really was GKN is difficult to know. The term OE seems to be used for all sorts of aftermarket spares. I guess the only way to buy a genuine OE prop is to buy from Land Rover, although I know for fact spares are not necessarily manufactured to the same standards as components sent to the manufacturing line.
I repaired my centre bearing rubber with Tiger Seal, and it had fixed the support, but now it's much more noisy. I think the bearing is going too.
Look up Bailey & Morris, they are a well known prop shaft manufacturer, and do LR props.Richard

You'll likely find that when you take it off that the UJ's are notchy anyway and the whole thing needs replacing.
GKN is the way to go as mentioned. Cheap is not a good idea here.
Have used site sponsor for rear upper control arms and other parts. Good service and delivery.

Genuine LR are made by GKN, so you’re best best to save a few ££ is to buy GKN. As others have already mentioned, anything else will cause you a whole world of pain.

Had my propshaft replaced by the local Main Agent this year with a genuine one. It was £100 more than Advanced Factors are asking and don't ask about the labour charge
Fortunately still covered by Warranty Direct
