Well that's good to know. thanks for the update and I'm pleased you got it sorted. So satisfying when it turns out to be a no cost fix and you can do it yourself.

I can't take the credit for this job. I emailed P F Jones who originally fitted this towpack. A guy called Phil Addison mailed me back with the fix. All credit to him and the company, credit where it is due.1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

seems to me you should change thread title to show you found the fix … this sounds like an issue that many others could easily find themselves facing.

This problem is more common than even I thought. I googled the problem and it led me to lots of owners clubs and caravan sites. But nobody had the answers. Bearing in mind that this towpack is one that is fitted to most serious caravan pulling cars..............Can't really believe how poorly designed it is. A tiny plunger with a tiny return spring, right down the bottom of the socket where the water collects. Its no wonder it gets stuck.1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

I think I should have a bit of credit, as I said this on Page 1

so you have towbar electrics.
some systems turn off the rear fogs when a trailer is plugged in.
So check for any additional wires running to the tow socket.
Check the towbar foglight fuse has +12v on when the fogs are on. (this will at give clues that the fog power is getting to the rear)

I will have to check our tow socket plunger as our fog lights haven’t been working for some time.24MY X-Dynamic HSE Defender 110.

Remove the socket from the bracket, then take the front off, now you can push the plunger out from behind, and push it back and forth, use WD40 or the like.1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

This plunger is tiny. IF you have one, it is outside the circle of pins, right at the bottom. There is a groove where the plug guide runs along. It is this plug guide which bumps into the plunger. So check at the end of the groove on the socket. If you still can't find it, I will try to post a photo.1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

You may well have. But looking at your photo the socket seems to be on its side. So on the far right hand side, what is that light coloured piece in a slot ?1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

Yes it’s on it’s side, Land Rover fitted it. I squirted wd40 around, I think it’s shiny from the led light I had on for the photo.24MY X-Dynamic HSE Defender 110.
