Hi all, I am looking to purchase and installing a recovery hook on the front of my D3. I have an ARB bullbar fitted and are unable to locate a mounting point to the chassis. I am told the u bolt at the front is only for export tie down and not certified for recovery. Can anyone advise please? I have become an expert at working on my D3 by necessity not want

The U-bolt is a towing eye and although not specifically defined in the user manual for off-road recovery by LR everyone uses it for that and I don't know anyone that's ever had problems with it.
There are separate lashing eyes (holes in this case) on either side of the front and rear of the underside of the D3 for use as tie-downs whilst transporting the D3 - it is not recommended to use these for recovery. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

The "Big Lift".....they weren't all D3s - I think there was an X5 and a Touareg and something else all attached to a single D3.
They definitely didn't use the towing eyes - I seem to remember reading that they welded special reinforced brackets to the front and rear of the chassis of the D3.
The rest of the chassis (i.e. the middle bit) was however untouched and supported the weight of the three cars hanging off it. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

The Video link was good however miss guided, At this stage no-one can give me an example of the front D shackle being inadequate for recovery purposes so until further notice will give it a go, I'm sure the rugged North west Pilbara will sort it out once and for all. I will keep all informed.

Well I was pulled over a big sand dune by a modified vehicle using a long kinetic rope that was attached to the front recovery point. When the car took of it accelerated faster than a Cheetah on crack in fact I'm convinced we went through the sound barrier on the way down the dune. So yes the front recovery point is OK In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
