Good morning,
I've just had my AA renewal through and it's gone up massively from last year (previously just over £120 to over £205 this year) for identical cover (roadside assistance and recovery). Used them just twice as far as I can recall in the last 10 years and have been a member for 37. I think this really taking the you know what and is a fine way to repay customer loyalty.
I'm not prepared to accept this so I'm cancelling my membership. However, I do not want to be without breakdown cover so I'm looking for suggestions please for personal membership (got more than one vehicle). Any first hand recommendations, RAC, Greenflag, etc. Never had a problem with the service from the AA, just like to know how people get on with the other organisations. Thank you.

Have a look at startrescue. Always found them much cheaper, but luckily never had to call them so cannot vouch for how 'good' or 'bad' their response is...

Cancel your membership then reapply as a new member. Could be interesting6 LRs last one 2009 HSE D3.
Current D5 HSE LUX 2019.
Don't be surprised when you ring up to cancel they can suddenly do it for last year's price or less..

My Wife pays around £80/yr, she has been a member for around 20 years and has never called upon their services. Her membership just went up this year, it had been £70 ish for several years before, every time she phoned to renew she would be asked if there was anything else they could do, she just said 'you could make it cheaper' and they usually would drop down and they even added homestart at no extra cost.
If you were to join now, it would cost you £89 for any car you are driving or passenger in, recovery to your destination or garage and breakdown over 1/4 mile of your home.
I've not had to use them yet... But after an awful experience with the RAC I cancelled that membership and did some research into the recovery company with the best customer satisfaction. I ended up with LV= Britannia Rescue.2005 D3 V8

Been with Britannia Rescue for about 12 years after nearly 30 years with the AA and members of my family have been with them for longer and used them a few times
Can't fault Britannia Rescue's service the membership I have includes personal cover for me and my wife and when my wife broke down with very little credit on her pay as you go phone about 10 years ago when I was working away in Scotland she rang me as she didn't have her cards with her and the breakdown cover details, I rang Britannia Rescue to see if their was something they could do and was immediately asked for my wife's phone number and they would call her and sort it out, they had someone out to recover the vehicle home within 40 mins
If you are an LV insurance customer or CMSA / Boundless member you also get a discount on breakdown cover with Britannia Rescue"Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag'em down to your level. It's cheaper".

My only advice would be do not go to RAC absolutely abysmal. I have my AA ( probably not much better ) with my Nationwide bank account.Called them this year and they were ok this time. Green flag were good when I broke down in Europe some years ago.
RAC put ours up big time last year, phoned them up, with no fuss dropped the price to lower than it was six years ago. They set a price banking on you accepting it.
Though doubt we will buy renewing this year, called them for the first time in six years, on the A38 just outside Exeter at 10am, earliest they could attend would be 1pm. Luckily managed to get mobile without needing them.

I did ring them, initially just to have a good old rant and cancel but ended up rejoining, with the same level of cover, but with another driver added to the policy, for £89.50. For me alone it would have been £74.50. Why not just offer this deal in the first place...

My AA is 'free' with my Lloyds Platinum card membership.
Home call-out included and this came into its own when my battery had died in my old Jag on my drive last year and the AA guy drove 25 miles up the road to get a new one, come back & fit it. I obvs had to pay for the battery but I've never had any dramas with the AA. Discovery 4 HSE late 2015 Euro6

I always phone them every year once I get the renewal, they always match it to last years price or its just an increase of £1.
Same cover and Ive also never used it in the last 20 years.

Have had RAC cover for personal cars and commercial vehicles in the past.
Count attendance and recovery if required in hours rather than minutes.
If someone turns up within the hour, you may be one of the lucky ones.
I also believe that the RAC have no recovery trucks of their own, i certainly cannot recall seeing a RAC liveried one.
Never say never, but unless they change substantially, RAC is a no no for me.

I've got a Personal Breakdown Recovery plan.
It covers both myself and wife, in any of our 3 vehicles.
It also covers us as passengers in any other vehicle we're travelling in, be it driver or passenger.
Cost is £50 pa....... however there's a £30 charge for any call out we make.
Had this cover for a few years, but don't know how good it is, as I haven't had the 'opportunity' of using them ..... yet!I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.
