Reduction in MPG

Hey everyone,

I'm 2 years into D3 ownership now and loving it. Aside from having EGR's blanked last year and a faulty intercooler hose (very helpfully diagnosed by 10forCash and Pete at BAS), the old girl has been running like a dream.

My only niggle is that over the last 6 months it seems to have taken a dive in the MPG department. Before the EGR blanks by Pete, I used to get about 26/27 and afterwards it picked up to around 30mpg on my average tank of fuel - superb! But recently it's slipped back down to around 26. It's due a service next month and I'm just wondering if there's anything else that can be done (besides from having a lighter right foot). It's an auto and I've heard a gearbox flush can help? It's a 54 plate with 60k miles and I assume that's never been done.

Any help/advice/opinions greatly received!

Regards,

Rich.

Brakes partly binding can do that, one of mine's in the dealer for that at the mo. Check for one wheel hotter than the others after a run.

Cheers DSL, I'll check for wheel heat. I did knock it into neutral the other day and let it roll to a stop, just to see if I could feel any resistance in general (other than it's weight!) and it seemed to role pretty smoothly to a stop but I didn't think to check the wheel temps. It will be due some discs and pads soon, so it's a definite possibility.

Cheers,

Rich.

By the time my service is due my I have lost about ~ 1.3 mpg. With a clean air filter it is back to normal.

Yep air filter is another possible. LR think our air quality is good enough to change every 45k/3yrs. Change mine every year or 15k.

I lost 10mpg on Wednesday this week, this picked up on Thursday as I lost 8mpg.

Normally get 30-32mpg on my way too & from work. However on Wednesday I drove the same but only got 21mpg, then on Thursday I got 24mpg.

Took the subaru today as it cost me £70 to do 210miles (2 days of comute) in the Disco, normally £70 will last 3.5 days.

Need a service, am booked in on the 30 sept, may need to fetch it forward. Hopefully that will resolve the issue.
