Reg Number Swap Dilemma

Anticipating picking up our D4 on 22nd this month based on how long it would take to swap the number from my D2 to the D4.
Blow me but DVLA have been super-efficient and I received two reg documents in the post yesterday with the D4 swapped to the new reg and the original reg now applied to the D2.

Dilemma !!!!
I'm not ready to pick up the D4 but now my D2 should have different plates and the insurance notified plus the tax disc is also in the 'old' reg.
Anyone else been in this situation and got any ideas what I'll have to do? I didn't really want to buy new plates for a week and all the hastle with the insurance company (who will likely want to charge me for a change) Confused
I can't believe I can drive the D2 round for a week or so with the 'wrong' plates on Sad

If your documents were "delayed" in the post for, say, a week, how would you know? Whistle
Surely there is some sort of grace period to allow for postal delays etc

Of course, to keep everything 100% legal, you should swap the plates, and inform your ins co...

If you asked DVLA to change the number of the D2 and they have done that then you need to change the plates ASAP to be legal. Tax Disc & MOT should follow soon.

Thanks for the reply guys, guess I forgot my own rule 'never assume as it can make an ass out of u and me'

ary, do I take that to mean I will be sent/issued a new tax disc and MOT ?

New Tax and Mot will be sent and I was advised when I put a number on retention that I could use the old tax disk with the new plate until new disk arrived. I think the only safe way would be to not use the D2. on the road but even then under the continuous insurance rules you need to insure it as it is taxed.

I have a similar problem. I've received the new V5 to put the Disco back on a 60 plate but neither the dealer or I have a V5 or tax disc for the replacement. I was meant to have picked it up on Friday but it's now a waiting game as they won't release the new car without paperwork.

I swear blind that I've never had a V5 in advance of a car being registered (they usually arrive a week or so after) but the dealer insists it's the way it works these days. Either way, I'm still running the D4 on the private plate with matching tax and insurance. The MID shows it as insured under that reg so I'll just keep waiting. Annoyingly, the new car is now taxed !!

It's one of the drawbacks to having a private reg, trying to guess when the DVLA will do it. The past few times I've got lucky and only had to wait a day to collect the car.

My original concerns were all sorted easily but interestingly, although the 'new' reg document for my old car was sent to me, the replacement tax disc and MoT went to the dealer I was buying from (they originated the transfer documents) so for a while I was concerned about driving round with a tax disc with the wrong number on.

im just putting mine on retention now, so I can give to dealer to register on the new D4.

spoke to DVLA this morning and lady I spoke to confirmed that if Im sending in the V317 with my V5C and payment £105, the new reg documents and VRM plate document should be with me in two weeks and the MOT (iff applic) and the new tax disc will be in the following two weeks. im ok to drive with a different VRM to tax disc, but worth keeping copies of the documentation in the car so avoid lengthy hassles with the bobblies if I get pulled over.

my dilemma is that I go on holiday in 4 weeks and tax disc may not arrive before we go away !!!

Isn't it just easier to get the dealer to do it ? Drive in with your plate on your old car and drive out with your plate on your new car ?

They're usually very keen to help and sometimes forget to charge you for it Very Happy

That's exactly what I did (though I did have to pay the fee) but as it was the first time I'd done a number transfer I think I was panicking a bit Rolling with laughter
