how reliable

Have just bought D4, asked on here how reliable, received favorable reports.
just been reading Landroverhell.com, have i made a big mistake.
Done 350 miles, restricted performance light came on, dealer fixed it.
Is this the start, not happy

Landroverhell is only ever going to have bad stories!

I've had mine 6 months and done 15,000 miles. I've had to put 1 litre of oil in so far, and the only problem has been one of the windows not working on global close, and that was fixed at the dealer with the assurance program.

I couldn't be happier with it!

My attitude is "Of course they'll break, they are a LR!". If they don't it's a bonus. Based on running 3 D3s and having more problems with these cars than all the other cars I've owned combined.

Mine spent 11 consecutive days in the workshop in the first two weeks of ownership!

BUT I do believe it has the potential for me to consider it the 'best' car Ive ever owned, I suspect this is why there are seemingly a number of devoted owners on this forum that happily put up with the negative aspects of LR ownership.

There is however no getting away from the fact that statistically the D4 is already the least reliable car I have ever owned, I have had it for less than a month and I have owned a lot of cars in my time !

Im not sure if that makes me lucky or unlucky.

I've had mine 11 months

The Only problem I've had after 17,500 miles is the door seal replaced as it had a hole in it.

I had the seal replaced on the FFRR before that and the D3 before that.

All replaced under warantee. Not LR's fault, just caused by 'fat Censored ' syndrome. (mine!) Whistle

All of us with an earily model (2005-2007) D3 have been through some sort of landrover hell. Lets face it, we were and still are beta testing for the Disco 4. From what ive seen so far we (the D3 beta testers) have already spilled the blood for you.....

I had 2 D3's during the 2005-2007 period.

Still only had the 'fat Censored ' seal' problem.

Perhaps I've been lucky.

Wait no..... I did have a serious problem in 2006 with a RRS supercharged.... But that doesn't count as a proper LR does it Whistle

Every new car I have owned for the last 15 years has had some issue. I tend to change every mine and my wife's car every two-three years and have no brand loyalty.

By far the worst for reliability was my Audi S5 followed by my wife's Audi A3. Now they are meant to be a brand known for reliability. Most reliable was my jaguar. So far with my Disco 4, no problems but I expect there will be one at some point as there is just so much more that can go wrong with a vehicle like this.

Trying to think back over the cars we've had prior to Discos... Ignoring the Series III, in which I carried a fairly serious toolkit and selection of fluids at all times, I'd say most of my cars have been ok on reliability - though I've got rid of a few at the point they looked like getting costly.

The D1 dropped a clutch expensively but that's wear and tear - and as it was in south Wales at the time, that's the only car other than the SIII that's ever come home on a flatbed. The only 'mystery' problem I can think of was a BMW 3 series which developed a slight hesitation on acceleration in certain circumstances at about 18 months old. The Citroen C8 ran pretty well to 3 years (end of warranty) then just started to fall apart, but that's better than the Vauxhall Omega I had as a company car for a while, which was falling apart after 6 months. The elderly Peugeot and the Scenic were routine maintenance and wear and tear items only, even at 12 years old, as has been the 5 series so far (2 years in and only fluid changes so far).

On to the D3 and D4: no problems with the D3 beyond a bit of fun getting the epb adjusted properly, and D4's only issue after the usual poor PDI was a bit of a surge in the cruise control which was sorted in the software patches. In fact I think I had more recalls on the C8, which was also a new model when I got it, than on both of these together, but never actually had a problem that I noticed.

All in all either I've been very lucky over 25 years of car ownership, or (more likely, I suspect) it's just the problem vehicles that you hear about

Cheers

Martin

Disco 4 HSE Santorini Black- 7 months on, 15000miles on the clock. Faultless so far. Bought my first Disco with some trepidation, particularly on the reliability front. It has been absolutely flawless so far. 1 litre of Oil a few weeks ago. It's just told me it needs it first service at 16100miles. Would buy again in a flash, even thinking of an Evoque as a replacement for the wife's Merc next year based on how good its been.

D4

After having a d3 HSE in NZ and going everywhere in it down wet/dry river beds, up rocky mountain tracks, through floods, marshy land beaches, gravel roads, then having a D3 HSE here in the uk, now a D4 which went everywhere in the snow of nth yorks and Hampshire, always started first time, cleared the screen of frost and snow with aplomb. Cruises like being in business class ! Everytime I drive it I just realise what a great car this is Very Happy

So far not one of these has gone wrong or let me down...........

Nearly a year-old with just under 10,000 miles mostly on roads, lots of single track and some proper off-roading, trials and green lanes. Had the foot brake squeak issue, especially when reversing. The assurance programme thing sorted over-powering when resuming cruise control.

Other than that, no issues.

I'm certainly not going to post on here that after 12 months and 21,000 miles that our D4 has been totally reliable with no problems whatsoever.

Nope.

No way am I going to say that.

No no no.
