On the Remap menu: Economy, Regular, or Peformance sir?

I'm having our 2.7 TDV6 remapped later today. A friend of a friend has offered to do it for a great price. He's one of these chaps who reads the current ECU settings, sends it off to a third party (and pays a fee I would guess), then applies whatever he gets back. Much the same process then as when Superchips remapped my 530d. It makes me wonder whether there are really only one or two genuine mappers out there at the top of the food chain.

In any case, whomever originally produced the maps has come up with three flavours: economy, standard, or performance. I've not chosen yet. Primarily, I'm looking to improve the get up and go, so on that basis I suppose the economy map is ruled out. Why doesn't the normal map produce the same power as the performance map? Surely if you don't put your foot down you won't burn the extra fuel? It's not like a petrol car where running rich produces more power is it? All a bit confusing. Embarassed

Any insights gratefully received! Thumbs Up

Sounds like it's one of BAS's tunes as that's the process his ones go through via lots of different companies.

If it's re-map, then the chances are, that even the economy will give you more power than std and normal will be a normal tune, so giving you more power still, then performance is all out power.

Ask the tuner for the power output differences.

Just go for one with a high torque increase as that way you'll get improved performance and the potential benefits of better fuel economy if you drive like a nun Smile

one of the FL2 members has a similar remap, IIRC its a ST3 remap from somebody i haven't heard of

He says the Eco Mode improves the MPG by 20%, but not the power delivery (but makes it smoother), the performance/sports mode does not increase the MPG but give the car a more sport feel in power delivery, and normal mode for when it goes into the dealers.
