Remapping Horror story
Had my D3 remapped with the Autologic remap. Lovely, the car is so much better. Phoned my insurer Directline to let them know about the remap obviously aware that it was going to cost be some extra premium. They cancelled my insurance on the spot and would not budge. Not interested in extra premium, they say any more than 20% increase in power and they wont touch it. I am not even insured to drive the vehicle back to the garage to get the remap taken off. Nightmare!Autologic remap, Superpro front lower bushes. Privacy Glass. 4x4 info enabled. Now sitting on Michelin Cross Climate SUV tyres. New Borg Warner turbo Nov 2014. Recon gearbox 2019.

That's worrying, anyone else had a similar problem ?

There is no way of telling that the car has been remapped except by testing the engine but if you have an accident and the insurer works out that you have modified your car in any way they can and will decline to pay your claim which could leave you exposed to massive liabilities from a third party.Autologic remap, Superpro front lower bushes. Typical for direct line. I used to have my previous D3 insured by them and they wanted to charge me £320 on top of my premium to tint the windows.
To be fair I would have checked first with the insurance before even opting to look at modifications. That's why I chose the insurance I did for my new cover as I wanted one that was MOD friendly.

Unfortunately with insurance companies mods are thrown into one bag and instead of thinking you are (possibly) a mature driver looking for some extra low down torque in a heavy 4x4, you've been thrown in with the youngsters messing with their Subarus and the like.
I got my Disco at 8 years old and haven't a clue if it's been mapped, but all I know it's much quicker off the mark than the new one I bought back in 2005!!
Whether an insurance company would find out is negligible so I guess it's down to the individual.Discovery 4 HSE

I used to be with the NFU when I had my Defender, I called them up to let them know I'd fitted a suspension lift and some bigger tyres, a winch and some other bits and also a remap, their response was that's OK you're still covered and all on the same premium
It's just a shame that they doubled their premiums a couple of years later and became uneconomical for run of the mill car insurance Clive

My remapped & moderately modified D3 is with NFU and their price dropped £200 (33%) renewal before last. And it stayed there.

TBH, I think it's a bit of a postcode lottery with the NFU, I've seen a lot complain about increased prices where others have come down, shame really, I found them really good to deal with otherwise.Clive
NFU for me is not realistic, last years quote £1000 compared to £300 I paid, same with swmbos FL2 totally OTT when I spoke to them they could not understand it either, must be the postcode Goodyear Duratracs

Always take advice from you insurer before the mod I guess is the obvious lesson here
When I had one on my first D3 I was careful to ensure that they knew it didn't increase the top speed of the vehicle and that it was "to assist with power delivery for towing" 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Agree. Mines insured through them. DeCat, Remap, Allisport IC, upgraded brakes and lots more and not a problem/
Directline and all the comparison sites will only insure a bog standard car with only factory fitted extras.

I was with Privilige, as long as it was below a certain amount which the autologic one is, just (I forget if it was a straight 50 bhp or a %) then it was no change at all.Joined the BMWX5 45e group
