Remote Expedition - What Would Immobilise a D3?
A couple of years ago I rented a 4x4 in Southern Africa, complete with camping gear and rooftent, and my son and I crossed the Central Kalahari and the Magadigadi Pans in Botswana. I took a sat phone with me. When the rental guy saw it he laughed; "who are you gonna call?" he asked.
The trip went without incident and the phone stayed snug in its bag, but it got me thinking ; if you are heading somewhere where recovery or rescue is unlikely, what are the most likely things to immobilise your D3, to the point where you can't even limp out?
Therefore; what would be the most crucial spares to take, to maximise your chance of getting out?
(I know best practice is to travel in convoy with at least one other vehicle, but surely it must also be good practice to assume you'd have to be self-sufficient?)
Any thoughts?

I'd take the following:>
2 x 2pence pieces (temp fix for failed egr)
1 front and 1 rear wheel bearing
CV joint
Serpentine Drive belt
Repair kit for air suspension pipe.
Tyre repair kit.
Diagnostic kit.
Air/Oil/Fuel filters
If you really want to be serious, then an alternator, a starter motor, a spare turbo and a compressor.

Nick (aka the large one) could probably get most things to most parts of the world if necessary.
