How to remove sat nav screen

Hi,

I have a 2006 LR3 SE with the sat nav system. I am so disgusted with it that I want to pull it out of the vehicle and free up the space that would be on the dash if the sat nav wasn't there. How can I do this?

You could... but what would you put in its place?

Pull the H section centre fascia off from the very bottom (needs a good tug - suggest you use some thin pieces of metal as levers)

Then unscrew the two bolts holding the screen frame in (at lower extremes of screen in this picture)

and it should slde forward and out. There's a number of plugs at the back that need taking out.

Whether you upset the audio system? I don't know
You'll need to plug the hole with something - you won't have the cubby hole on non-SatNav D3's

You'd be better leaving it and use it just as a video screen TBH - not worth ripping it out

You'd need something to keep the MOST loop too.

To remove the surround give the bottom (down by the 12v / ashtray)a sharp pull, this should release the whole surround. If you do a search for fitting cameras or freeview systems for pictures.

The screen comes out quite easily, I am not sure the wiring can just be left disconected.

easiest and quickest way

Leave car unlocked with key in the ignition
Sign in the window "Please steal me"
Claim on the insurance and buy a car without sat/nav

You can fix the Most loop or expand it by adding new items, have done that before, but usually it involves some re configuration. In this case, the radio (IHU) which acts as the CAN to MOST gateway, picks up from the CCF that the screen is fitted. It will therefore expect to find it on the Most Bus. If it does not, the radio will store faults to that effect. If that is all that happens, it won't be the end of the world. However it might just decide there is a problem with the most bus and shut it down, so no Amp connection either.

It would certainly be worth testing before doing anything drastic.

Also as noted, the back box you see on non screen versions wont be there its part of the dash top.

I have a mate who is seriously thinking about removing his Premium Sat Nav to fit a CarPC so it'd be interesting to know what exactly would happen if the Sat Nav screen and DVD unit are disconnected from the wiring looms/MOST. Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the great tips.

Having the vehicle stolen prol won't work; I bought this used, and got the kit I wanted PLUS the Sat Nav I didn't. Doubt I'd have any better luck (in the States its hard to find an SE with the heated rear seats, xenon lights, etc. -- normal people would up for the HSE).

Ahh yes, the hole in the dash. I was wondering about that. I had hoped that there was a simple part from the dealer that would slot into that location, but it had occurred to me that it was part of the dash. This is a large problem.

And of course there's how the central body controller will react when it doesn't see the sat nav it's programmed to see...sounds like a real problem there, too.

I read on another board that there's a setting to keep the unit off. Better still, surely there must be some setting to make the screen dim way down at night, and change to a black background as well? It's simply too bright.

Use black vinyl film and stick it over the screen. When you sell the special SE, you simply pull it off, and let it irritate the next owner. Rolling with laughter
