In any case is there not some unwritten rule about not reusing any bolts on a tow bracket and ball, something to do with them not being able to be safely re-torqued or something - shoot me down in flames if i am wrong Thumbs Up

Not sure I'd worry about that, as the arms are only there to add stability to the fix, given that the ball height can be lowered. The main weight of the trailer is taken by the plug-in chassis fitting, as with the removable bar.

I was thinking more about the bolts through the MH bracket onto the plate rather than the ones onto the chassis, should have been a bit clearer sorry Thumbs Up

I was planning on using new bolts for attaching the towball - always do. Dont use the drop plate anyway, my towball is the right height on the bottm set of holes in the bracket.

Whats this with no bolts to attach the side arms to the chassis rails. On my 06, its the bolts that hold the damper brackets. Are you saying these dont exist on an 09 model?

The bracketing is arranged differently. On mine, there were just two holes through the chassis, none of the internal sleeve stuff. Makes it much easier to fit.

There seems to have been a change to the setup between MY08 & MY08.5. With the later models not having the bolt/sleeve set up that was there on the older models.

As discussed in This Thread.

OK - read the other thread, so it seems to say that to fit the pre 08.5 multiheight brackets to an 09, I'm going to need the bolts and sleeves as mine will have the keyhole slot in the rails.

Given LR are LR, these probably wont be sold separately - or has somebody already checked this out?

Cheers Guys

I didn't bother with sleeves, just two new stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers. As mentioned above, I cannot recall the exact size needed, but whatever I decided to get fitted perfectly.

OK, maybe I'll just go this route, and cut a couple of lengths of pipe (some spare steel gas pipe in the garage) to fit in the chassis rails to stop them "crushing".

Cheers

Yeah I'd think it might be a good idea, putting in some sort of spacer, to avoid the chassis rails compressing.

I would imagine that's what the slotted hole in the rail is for, to allow the "supplied spacer" to be popped in, when fitting to a MY08.5 onwards model.

As you say LR being LR, getting the fitting kit separately from the entire hitch kit, could be a challenge.

Nick at Yeovil says there is a bolt kit (£25), and is getting one in so that we can see what you get for the money. Seems a bit steep for a couple of bolts, so I might still go with a couple of stainless bolts and two cut peices of tube.

Is that on your D4?

If not - does anyone know what the arrangement is on a D4 - is it the same as 2009+MY?

OK - stripped it down, got it all free and working, plenty of copper grease applied, now trying to put it back together. A simple question really, when you turn the green handle back, should the plunger be fully retracted or is some of it still sticking out? When its fully out, whats the distance from the flat front edge back to the casting?

Cheers
