Removing green algae from the D4

Not really given the D4 a real good clean since I had it, as all cleaning has just been snowfoam and a pressure wash.
However recently I'm finding its got a lot of green algae in the window channels, the folds of the door surround trim, sealing trim, windscreen scuttle panel etc.
[I've even got a spot on the roof where the green seems to have impregnated the paintwork]

The stuff is difficult to remove, I've tried using liquid Flash floor cleaner in a bucket of hot water with a cloth.
However that only seems to remove the top slime and the base is much more difficult to remove [especially in the difficult to get at places].
I reckon Bleach would do the job, but don't want to put that anywhere near the paintwork, leather or vinyl trim.

So, anyone got an idea of a suitable product that'll remove it without causing damage?

Hi

Must confess in the past I’ve used various different products , soapy water , diluted vinegar , dettol mold and mildrew remover , magic eraser , applied with the aid of a softish nylon brush

However now due to their age with bubbling ive bought 4 x new window trims , think the set was around £60.00

Hope that helps

Old toothbrush… brilliant at getting down between the window and the rubber…

I don't know. When this site first started, it was all about brand new Discos, LR warranties and what various bits did in these new D4 cars. Now we're reduced to queries to help stop nature reclaiming them. Laughing

I have made a note that we should celebrate on 6th November 2024.

The green stuff is a continual problem on caravans. Why they build them white in the first place seems mad unless it is to show up the slime. I have a huge collection of special caravan cleaners but none of them work as well as "Elbow Grease" kitchen cleaner.

Thumbs Up Looks like the solution (in more ways than one), 2ltr ordered from Amazon last night.
Then this morning I just remembered I’ve got an unused 5ltr of Wet & Forget in the garage. Confused
So need to check if it’s the same stuff, but even if it is, I’ll wait and use the Pro-Kleen and keep it specifically for the D4.

Could we have an update please Ron ?

Did you conclude that Wet & Forget was better than Pro-Kleen spray?

Or maybe someone has a less expensive solution ? Whistle

White vinegar was recommended on a Mercedes Benz forum.

Can certainly recommend Wet & Forget it worked fine on my window channels….exactly as it says wet surfaces with solution and the wind and the rain does the rest.

Works great on all outdoor surfaces

You contracted an algae infection too then Nigel ? Laughing

Yes, used the ProKleen and it did the job well….. no paintwork or varnish removed in the process. Wink

Though just noticed when under the bonnet the other day that it’s coming back at the base of the windscreen scuttle panel.

So this is a nice reminder for me to give it another spray. Thumbs Up
