Replace 12v Cigarette lighter sockets with DIN sockets ?

Years ago, trying to future proof my older cars, I changed their cigarette lighter type sockets for DIN sockets, and added additional DIN sockets.

All my add-on kit, (PDA, PC, Radar Trap Detector, GPS, auxiliary lights, compressor) has DIN plugs on it.

You can imagine how frustrated I am to find that my Disco 3's 12 volt sockets are not proper DIN sockets but cigarette lighter sockets! I would have thought by now manufacturers would have standardised on DIN!

I know I can make up a number of adaptor cables, or change all my plugs to universal DIN/Cigarette plugs - but neither is a tidy solution.

I am considering changing some or all of the standard LR Cigarette sockets to DIN sockets like this

from Vehicle Wiring Products http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-...12vacc.php

I wonder whether anyone has a better idea, or has tackled this - it looks quite simple, but I would like to do it in such a way that I can restore the car to standard when selling it.
Am I Gammon or Woke ? - I neither know nor care.

Hi - like your thoughts....

I did the same in my old D1, however will be adding some into my D3. Thinking of in rear, replacing the cig lighter on on the dash as well as adding a couple more here and there.

Much, much better than the ciggy lighter types arn't they !

I use the universal type male plugs ( ref 60116 on that site )
you just pull off the red sleeve on the front of the plug and
it will fit the DIN female, so no need for adaptors Bow down
