I am thinking about replacing the top touch screen with a tablet connected red to a new stereo. At the moment the top screen just does sat nav and setting, however I do have a transmission fault so I wondered if that stopped the 4x4 details being displayed.
Do all dis is with the top display have the 4 4 details?
Has anyone swapped this out and if so can you use USB or anything to get this data onto the tablet?

Only the HSE had 4x4 info, however if you decide to keep the screen then 4x4 info can be activated with an IID tool.
Not sure whether you can remove your screen without having to replace your radio/cd head unit with an aftermarket one as the screen is connected via a fibre optic loop (MOST) to the head unit, amp, satnav cd unit, and Bluetooth module(if fitted). Maybe the screen can be removed from the loop but I don't know, however the loop is the communication between the modules so must be complete. Stu

I am going to swap the stereo, thats a given. Im not bothered about the top display and was going to do some sort of slot in tablet set up to replace it. I wouldve liked the off road data, but as I dont anyway, looks like its a go ahead for the swap then.
It would be nice if I could gte it on the tablet, but not essential. I would love if it was possible to get it through ODB or something, but its not a deal breaker. Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

The next question, and I am sure its been covered so my apologies in advance, how do I check which stereo kit I need.
Do I have an amp? How can I check? The front speakers have the HK sticker on, so I am assuming I have the speakers at least.
