I am doing the same job. Started yesterday but was frutrated by the six bolts that keep the side step attached to the three mounts. One has sheared off altogether. The others just spin but actually don’t move. Did you have any problems and how did you overcome them? I am considering my angle grinder but suspect it will be OTT.

Yes I had the same problem with the drivers side, I had to rip the rubber tread off an find the other end of the bolt, quite easy on mind as it was so rusty then got mulgrips on the top and 10mm ratchet on the bottom and managed to undo them without an angle grinder, good luck

Same issue as above when I changed mine. I used angle grinder to take the top off a couple of the bolts that were under the rubber. They tend to spin in the captive holes.
Try and jam a screwdriver in the top hex to stop them spinning while you get a socket on the lower nut. You may be able to break the threaded section off.

In the end I used an angle grinder. I spent a couple of hours trying various ways to get them off beforehand. I took off the plastic top and knocked away the rusted cover over the nut heads. Then put a spanner on the nut and used a socket wrench underneath, but I found that the nut kept turning and began to shear. Thats when I decided the angle grinder was needed. half an hour later and all 12 nuts gone.
I found the existing brackets to be in good order and decided rather than replace, I would keep them on. I brushed of any dirt, cleaned with alcohol and then painted them with hammerite to give them more protection. My original steps were OEM Land Rover so the brackets should be good. That said, for 800 quid, what I took off was little more than rust with a band of aluminium around them.
Anyway, job done. thanks for the advice.D3 Java Black 57 Plate SE, Night Breakers, Grabber ATs, Sidelight LEDs and best of all - Narpy torch. loads more to buy.
