Replacement Radio Tuning Buttons |
|
Hi,
My discovery has the 6 cd in dash radio. Part No. VUX500321
The tuning buttons (also used for CD track selection i think), have been progressivley failing. These are the right and left single and double arrows below the CD slot.
They have now all failed, so i decided to open the radio up and see what was happening.
The buttons press on p.c mounted spring return switches and these are still fine.
What has failed is the plastic buttons with the arrows on them. They have a small plastic pin which is at 90 degrees to the button face and presses on the p.c mounted switches. They are thin and obviously not very strong and have snapped off.
Can anyone please suggest where replacement buttons could be bought?
Thanks for your interest.

Best option is probably going to be a breakers yard out your way. I would imagine that LR would only do the whole radio unit. Are you in Warranty? if so, should be covered. Bodsys Brake Bible

OK, I know I'm a tight-wad and like to get in there and fix things rather than buying new, but if it's just that the activator pins have snapped off the back of the buttons, why not make new pins out of nails/wire/drill-shank (polish the working end so it doesn't carve up the switch) and use a two-part epoxy resin to bond the new pin to the back of the button? Yeah, OK so they might not light up at night any more; small price to pay?
Wouldn't that be quicker than waiting for a new unit to get shipped to you anyway? Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

Thanks for your thoughts guys.
I'm not still under warranty, so to get me out of trouble, i've done as Stapldm suggested and used nails which has worked ok. The only issue being that on a couple of the buttons the hinge has broken as well, so they don't work quite so nicely. I guess with more time and fidling i could fix this.
I'll check out the ebay option too.
Cheers
