Replacement Windscreen - elephant.co.uk

Just to add to the pool of knowledge, I've just had my front screen changed following a stone impact. I'm insured with Elephant so their Glass replacement (£75 excess) is contracted through National Windscreens. Phoned to get the replacement done and was told they would only use 'their supplied screens'. Knowing the issues from here, I persisted to get a LR screen, but was told this could only be done if expressly authorised by the insurers. So I phoned Elephant, who said, "sure, not a problem". National Windscreens checked with Elephant too themselves, then ordered the LR screen and today I am now the owner of an new LR screen. They didn't know about the clips though, but had some anyway which were fitted.

So, if you are with Elephant, insist on a LR screen despite what the replacement company may say at first.

Did similar with Autoglass - just had to wait a bit longer to get it fitted - all quite painless - couple of phone calls
Insured with Allianz

I did likewise when had mine changed with landrover insurance. even though LRI policy says genuine parts the windscreen company had to phone to check.
then when it arrives to be done before they take out your old one check the new one is genuine I had them arrive with an OEM one even though I had ordered a Land Rover one

If your vehicle is still under warranty you can insist on a LR branded windscreen as to fit a non-standard one could invalidate the warranty - or so I was told by a windscreen fitter.

That doesn't work with Privilege (part of Direct Line), they say the windscreen cover is not part of your premium but a free gift!!!... so you can take what they say or go lump it... nice.

Still, my insurance is up for renewal soon so I know where not to go Laughing

You, my friend, were fed a complete pile of cock.

Now sure, they are entitled to charge you for any cost greater than that of supplying an OEM but to call it a gift is beyond disingenuous; it's an outright lie Evil or Very Mad
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Privilege can say what they like, they can be giving the glass cover for free or could even be paying you a gratuity if you insure with them. At the end of the day they have to deal with a claim in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy document. Its a legal contract to which you are both bound to comply with.

NoDosh seems to sum it up quite nicely Exclamation

Trust me, I went through the policy document with a fine tooth comb. As NoDo$h rightly points out on page 15 of the policy document:
Quote:
We will not cover:
* the excess shown in the schedule
* any amount greater than the limit shown in the schedule if you do not use an approved windscreen supplier

The problem I had is that they now only have one approved supplier - Autoglass. So you either take the Chinese copy glass from Autoglass or swallow the limit shown in the schedule (which nowhere near covers the OEM glass). I pointed out that some people had been getting OEM glass from Autoglass but they wouldn't approve it - said others had just been lucky!

I also pointed out that they couldn't insist that my 3 month old car was repaired with sub-standard parts... which is when they said they could legally do this because the windscreen cover was not included in my premium but provided as a "gift"

End result is that if I sourced the LR glass myself they would give me £125 towards it... minus my £70 glass excess! So I got £55 for £425 worth of repairs just to keep my brand new car up to the manufacturers spec!

I totally agree that it's a complete pile of crock, and would have taken it further If I'd thought to record my calls.
Evil or Very Mad

I'm just putting it out there so others don't get burned by this bunch of crooks...

Stone just hit below the wiper and the car even caught the stone. Will have to call Admiral who also own elephant I believe. Sad

Well they say they're going to use an LR part but excess may be higher (down to Admiral) and coming out to fit it on Monday 9th. What do I need to look out for when they fit it?

Just noticed the sun has worked its magic and there's a new crack almost the height of the screen now!

The stone that caused it is just below the point of impact.
