After replacing actuator, 2 beeps when locking with a twist. |
|
Hi All,
Just this afternoon replaced actuator nr 4, after having done the other 3 sometime during the last 4 years.
Now this time something strange happens. When I lock the car, I get 2 beeps (error). They sound exactly like when a door is not properly locked. However it takes about 5 seconds for these beeps to sound (as opposed to immediately when a door is open) and the warning light doesnt come on either to indicate alarm is armed.
All doors lock properly.
So my guess would be that this had more to do with the alarm system itself. Any idea's where to start? A reset (how to do that? )
Thanks again,
Sige

Unfortunately that didn't solve the problem. Guess during the weekend I'll take out new lock and put back the old one as part of diagnoses. Off course first checking all conncetors.
Getting very handy with this repair after now having done 4. Remember the first time was extremely frustrating. Unfortunately the car has only 4 doors.
Thanks and any ideas welcome!

Sounds like it thinks the doors not closed.

Thanks for you reply but in that case you get the double beep immediately when closing. In this case it takes around 6 second. Also I don't get an open door warning/indication on the dashboard.

Do you have passive entry? I know when i just loosely put mine back together for the evening, it did this when i hadn't plugged the passive entry sensor back in.

Hi Steve,
No idea what passive entry is tbh. So I guess I don't have that . Is it entry without pushing any buttons?

keyless ... car unlocks as you get to it and there is a small button on the door handle IIRC.

Don't have it, some at least that's not where the problem can be.

Kinda solved it. First a confession. When looking for a new actuator/lock on the web I came a cross a chinese imitation for e30. Why not give it a try I thought and it arrived within a week.
Installed it and worked mechanically well. However electronically not so much as I wrote above and the alarm would not turn on, despite the lack of an open door warning.
I re-installed the old lock (that was unreliable but still working) and the problem was gone. So I decided to take apart both locks, take the motor out of the chinese lock, install it in the original lock and voila, problem solved.
I took some picture of the inside of the lock and there are clear differences in the wiring of the flex cables. Also there seems to be a sensor missing. If anyone is interested Ill be happy to post the pics.
Lesson learned but problem solved.
Thanks for everybody's suggestions,
Sige
