Unfortunately, your diagnosis was correct. Split inlet manifold at a cost of over £1000 to fix. Shocked

Even more disappointing, my warranty company (Car Care Plan, providing it as part of the Inchcape dealer warranty I purchased with the car) have said they won't pay out as it's a "known design fault" that Landrover have confirmed to them.

Has anyone seen anything from Landrover admitting it's a design fault, or had any luck getting them to pay? If not, I guess I have to formally complain to the financial ombudsman or FCA, if they're covered by that.

Good luck and fingers crossed you get some support from LR but if I’m honest unless you have full LR history and a warranty then I doubt you will be successful.

Let us know how you get on... I just ended up coughing up for mine last week and if you’re getting it done get both of them replaced and also the oil scavenge pipe that connects the two.

Cheers
Andy

Thanks Andy. Suspect you're right. I have FSH but some of it st an independent LR specialist, not main dealer.

Would you mind me asking how much extra it cost you to have both manifolds changed, as opposed to just the one? My garage is suggesting doing just the faulty one...

Thanks,
Ade

With the amount of bits that have to be removed to do just one, and the fact that if the other one hasn't been changed it will likely fail soon, have them both done at the same time.

Just had both of mine done, manifolds are £225.20 + VAT each from Duckworths.

Thanks guys. Thumbs Up

Is that technical bulletin for the same fault? It mentions valve cover rather than manifold, unless they're part of the same moulding.

My garage is recommending only doing the one; they say they've rarely / never needed to change a second manifold on the same car and that the majority of the labour is not saved if doing both, so cost wouldn't be much less than doing them separately.

I don't think they're simply trying to do the full job twice as they're never short of work and I've never had reason to doubt them.

Aha. Thanks!

That might give the warranty company their wriggle room to avoid paying out. Confused

Guess I could try to use the bulletin to persuade LR to cover the repair costs afterwards, though I imagine I've got more chance of teaching a pig to fly...

I would definitely get both done.
I didn’t and the second one failed 3 months later.
There has to be a labour saving surely.
I had to pay for two separate jobs.

I have a 2011 HSE D4 from new and wrote to Land Rover to see if I could get any financial assistance.
I took a running jump as advised by them.
Seems to be a common failure.

When mine cracked I suggested to the Indy to have both done and they saif it wasn't really going to save much on labour and just to do one side. So that's what I did. No issues with the old side yet. Sure it'll fail.one day though. £1k is steep. I paid a LOT less than that.

If you lose power when Restricted Performance comes out then it mostly related to cracked intake manifold... my D4(2013 model, TDV6) did... which costed me 3000€ to fix it in local Land Rover garage. Big Cry
and another Restricted Performance I've experienced without any power lose, it's finally diagnosed with water in diesel filter, it's gone after the filter's replaced.

There isn't a huge crossover in terms of parts taken off that are common to both sides

The fan and throttle body are about all that would be shared
