These pop up and still performs normally then they go. Seems intermittent no pattern as to why they pop up plus bonnets open crops up from time to time. Any ideas??

Welcome, might I suggest you complete your profile so folks know what vehicle and age you are driving 
It helps people to consider if your vehicle has a known issue for that year etc. "Track day running - Don't put your foot back on the accelerator until your absolutely sure you don't have to take it off again"

Track Days: BMW E36 M3 Evolution MY 1996 (3.2 Litre 377 BHP sat in 1,250 Kgs of car, with a pro safety cage and some serious braking power)

You have posted in the D3 section you may need to try the D4 area.
Does it go into restricted performance if you drive it hard past 2800rpm ? The second turbo cuts in when this happens and could be a split in the intercooler hose or a cracked intake manifold Andrew

Would also be useful to plug in a code reader and let us know what fault codes are displayed.
