I booked the car in with Guava in Guildford to have the fault looked at, but the message has now disappeared after a few restarts.

I suppose it's still worth getting it looked at in case it's the start of a problem?

Is the restricted performance linked to only the engine or can it be suspension etc as well?

I get the Restricted performance occasionally - it is usually when the battery is a bit low, so a decent run usually cures it on next restart. The fault code usually points to the water in fuel sensor ( with my IID tool) which is interesting - I just ignore it.

I did a lot of work on the water in fuel issue last year:
The WIF sensor is just a potential bridge, with a 12v feed, Ground, and signal wire. The actual voltage in the signal line is variable and the ECU has an 'acceptable' range, but I wasn't able to determine exactly what that was.
In conclusion though, a good clean of the sensor (taking it out of the fuel filter) and using electrical contact cleaner on the electrical connector from the fuel filter housing into the wiring loom (C3427N on my D4) seems to do the trick. A lot of people change the filter and the housing, but not been a problem in my experience.

Thanks for the info Geoff.

I think it's something like that as it came on again last night when I started to head out, but went off again when I restarted to come back. It only comes on as soon as I've started, not during driving etc.

I also can't feel anything different with the car. Performance doesn't seem restricted from what I can feel.

I have it booked into the garage, so will continue with that to hopefully get it sorted. I will report back!

Well Geoff was correct on my issue.

Got a couple of other things that need sorting as well at some point, so will be in contact Geoff to arrange some maintenance.
