I guess this is the reason why the previous owner went for the non-heated window..

As Pete points out, the sensor for the auto lights is part of the rain sensor box. Therefore you could probably get auto lights and auto wipers and keep your OEM rear view mirror. There is a black plastic cover (2 parts) that covers the stem of the rear view mirror and rain sensor. Not sure if that's needed to "light proof" the rain/light sensor or just there for cosmetic reasons.
In terms of your heated screen, I had a new windscreen fitted about a year ago, and already I've lost a couple of wires on the passenger side, so have a couple of strips that don't de-fog.

I have managed to get the fog light switch from the local junk yard and the fog light is working!
I just need to take the bumper cover off this weekend to install the fog light.
What I have to get used to though, is that the switch now has "Auto" and I am so used to turning the switch all the way to the right when I start the car. The light will go off again when the switch is placed on "Auto". Perhaps I should have brought the light sensor from the junk yard too..
But then again, I always drive the car with the lights on, so it would be great if I can disable the Auto feature somehow and enable the day time driving light feature which I need to find out.

So what you could do, on the headlight plug is connect the red and yellow wires together with a bit of wire. (that is pins 52 & 56 on the switch or pins 4 & 6 if you look on the LR plug.
When in Auto position this would turn on the front headlights when the ignition is on.
I believe the tail lights and dash lights would remain off.
This is similar to UK cars from 2012 where we have to have front DRLs on all the time the ignition is on, but tail lamps don't need to be on.

I have finally managed to install the fog lights. The most difficult task probably was cutting the bumper open for the fog lights. While the bumper was off the car, I decided to install the head lamp washer nozzle that I got from the local junk yard.
Back to the Auto light, I was thinking that I could perhaps get the sensor next time I visit the junk yard and install it inside the ceiling map reading light panel. Since it is very dark in there, wouldn't the light always stay "on" when I have the switch on "Auto" mode?

That would give you the option if your windscreen does break, you could get one with the light sensor holder sometime in the future. That would also allow you to have the auto wipers. If you don't want the heated screen you may be able to get a screen with just the light sensor option without the heating elements (I don't know if that option is available in aftermarket screens).
Anyway sounds like a successful job. cheers

I guess my "evil plan" to install the light/rain sensor and placing them somewhere dark to enable the light to always stay on when the switch is on "auto" does not work.
I got a light/rain sensor at the local junk yard. There was two loose cable inside the ceiling panel, one for the mirror and one for the sensor. I plugged the light sensor in and..... nothing happens.
My guess is that either the sensor is bad, or I need to enable this feature with a GAP tool, which I don't have

Perhaps next time I take the car in for service/repair, I can ask to enable this feature.

For anyone who is planning to fit the OEM fog light, here is the template I created along with the cut out for the head lamp washer nozzle.

It's only a 5 minute job to turn the auto lights on in the CCF.
If I was you I'd turn up at local auto repair shop, with a dozen beers in hand and see if they could enable.
