Retro Sat Nav/Info Unit
Hi Chaps
Is it possible to put a Sat Nav/Info head unit from an HSE or similar into a GS with the smaller 41/2 inch unit - i.e. is the wiring there and will it just need activating or are there other issues?

Lots of issues such as no MOST cabling not there for connections.
Hardware needed would be head-unit, clock, separate amp, dab unit and various looms to name just a few from the top of my head.
Something a lot of us would like to do but not really viable tbh*

I have fitted a lenovo Tab 2 into mine.
I have installed Amazon music to it and tom tom, so looks like a proper unit with the usual D4 sat nav bezel.
Only issue is that to hear the sat nav instructions I need to press the aux button-not an issue for me as I either have it on silent anyway, or am on a long journey when I listen to my playlists anyway.
I just moved the standard headunit into the glovebox, so the radio and bluetooth controls all stay the same.

Think there about a thousand threads on this subject!
I replaced the entire system with a Kenwood double din system with garmin satnav, reversing camera, dvd, etc. I put am ipad mini where the sat nav screen was. Everything I "lost" by removing the head unit was replaced by the new head unit anyway.
That was all in my previous vehicle and cost about £1200-1300 to do from memory.
Not bothered to do it with this disco because the reality I found was that the google nav is far superior than I have yet seen fitted in a car and when on long journeys I mostly played my spotify play lists - so didn't use the head unit really either. Reversing cameras, access to facebook and other bling I can live without.
So my current set up (for longer journeys and laning) is an iPad pro mounted on a ram type mount connected via bluetooth and the aux port.
The supplied head unit is good for the scrap heap...D3 07 SE - still going strong
