Retrofit a OEM navigationsystem to a SE

Hi everyone, Newbie question

I’m driving a 2004 Touareg R5 TDI at present time, when I bought it I also tried out the LR3, the VOLVO XC90 along with the VW Touareg, the Touareg felt right at that time, but now I’m reconsidering buying a LR3, mainly due to the bigger load space and the optional 7 seats (and the Jaguar V6-engine).

So to cut to the bone – the price tag on the SE versus the HSE is huge in Denmark, after a search I found that it is stated that it not possible to retrofit an OEM navigation system to a SE. Is this true – it’s quite easy in the VW Touareg – all you need is a laptop computer and the appropriate software to tell the cars computer a NAVI has been fitted – this is not the case in the LR3?

Thx
Peter

Thought the SE had sat nav.
If mine didn't then i wouldn't fit the LR one as most aftermarket systems are better i think.

Welcome to D3 Peter Thumbs Up

I think it can be done, but there are certain 'bits' that are factory fitted and are cost prohibitive as a retrofit. I'm sure someone will come along soon and give a better explanation.

It has been discussed at length a couple of years ago IIRC

There was a certain dealer who was convinced they could do it... ordered & fitted all of the hardware, MOST bus, overlay looms etc. then contacted LR Engineering for the 'go code' LR Eng. said no way, that's a specification change Thud said dealer then removed all the kit they'd fitted and had a Embarassed Embarassed explanation session with the customer.... To date, even Autologic haven't cracked this one Crying or Very sad

Thx, the SE-version in Denmark doesn’t have the SAV-NAV… The option of going non OEM won’t give me the off-road-display Smile – witch I like, have a similar function in the Touareg - displaying the orientation off the front wheels

Best Regards
Peter

you should get an indication of wheel angle in the instrument pack once a TR mode other than 'General' is selected

offroad indications is only via premium satnav on UK HSE models or as an upgrade over standard OEM fitted units in lesser models. I have the factory fitted unit as an option fitted to mine, but do not have the offroad info

Thx 10forcash,

Wow, this is not my definition of customer care Evil or Very Mad - So I may have to go for a HSE Neutral to get the OEM system

Thanks for all the fast replies

Customer care & marketing are mutually exclusive, whatever the marque
