Reversing sensors

Hi all,

My reversing sensors have packed up. When I turn the ignition on I get an amber flashing light from the button on the dashboard (the light can't be switched off until I put the car in gear and drive off) but there is no audible alarm at all.
A LR engineer told me the first test is to get someone to put the car in reverse with the engine running whilst I touch each sensor in turn. They should gently vibrate. I have done that and they do vibrate.
Any ideas on what to check next ?

Thanks in anticipation.

A suitable fault code reader (live data) would tell you which sensor is 'playing-up'. Takes the guesswork out of finding the culprit. Do you have access to such a tool?

I had the same and it turned out to be moisture in the wiring loom (there are various connectors behind the bumper which are a pain to access with the bumper off in some cases). Once dried out and sealed with heat-shrink the issues were resolved for me.

Just a thought.............. Good luck.

95% chance the speaker has failed in the rear left panel if you never get any noises

easy way to check them . is to turn the on and listen closely - they should click
A few months ago I had the same symptoms as you. Two of them failed and my indy said that it's best to change all four of them with the loom because it is just a matter of time when the other ones fail. It is all due to the tornado of moisture (in winter with salt) causing those problems

IF the speaker doesn't work, then the system is pointless.

It should at least give an error tone or distance tone at some point if its working

Got to sort mine out and does just that, amber light flashes on the dashboard and the speaker gives a constant tone for a few seconds

Done some checking and it’s the loom so got to take the bumper off Big Cry

Its ten minutes work to get the bumper off and a good time to clean away all the crud behind it Thumbs Up

I’ve heard about those 10 x min jobs Laughing

Bless u as I did have a brief look at the instructions removing the bumper and seemed a lot longer , also found someone in the past has used half a ton of silicone to hold some of the loom connectors onto the sensors , so don’t know if it may be worth replacing the sensors at the same time

Got the new loom and some more Dinitrol so indeed an ideal to time to clean it all up Thumbs Up

Plus hopefully the new pliers I got will help get the plastic fittings out easier and got some more bits for my dremel

What checks did you do to come to the conclusion that the loom is the cause of your problem, please?

I removed the rear bumper from the Scrapper last week and have to say was a lot easier that I though it was going to be, you need to remove or at least get in behind the rear inner wheelarches and arch trim to release a popper each side but thats probably the hardest bit, then a couple of bolts and screws, 10 is a bit optimistic I'd say, best to set aside 11 to be safe Mr. Green

Hiya

Used a multimeter to test continuity from the connectors to each end, found a break in 2 x wires but will have to remove the bumper to find the breaks, but bought a new loom as it’s in a mess with silicone all over the connectors
