Am I doing the right thing? |
|
Hi All
I’ve got to do a bit of work on the underside of my Disco 3 - replacing the running boards and some of the heat shielding. While I’m grubbing around under there I was going to take the opportunity to tidy up some of the rusty patches on the floor-pan and chassis.
I’m intending to follow this procedure:
1. Remove dirt with a hosepipe.
2. Light (hand) brush down with a wire brush to remove the worst rust flakes.
3. Treat with salt remover (Rustbuster Chlor-X).
4. Brush down of the rusty patches with a mechanical wire brush
5. Treat with degreaser (Rustbuster SP10)
6. Paint rusty patches with Hammerite No.1 Rust Beater
7. Paint with Hammerite 5092953 Underbody Seal.
I’ve no garage (well, I do but its full of C***) so all the work has to be done on the driveway and I’ve only the weekend as the car is needed on the Friday and Monday.
If anyone has any advice or tips, can recommend better products, would use a different procedure, or can simply tell me I’m not wasting my time I would really appreciate it.
Many thanks.

There's also Dinitrol and Buzzweld to look at for protection. Waxoyl or similar cavity wax inside the chassis rails and sills will be needed too. Under the plastic sill covers there are usually a multitude of issues so it's worth paying attention there too. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8
