I'm thinking of getting a road angel 9000 with laser sensor. i know the sat nav part isn't as good as a tomtom but i'd be using it mostly as a speed camera locator with the laser sensor attached and then sat nav if i did get lost . does anyone have one? are they any good? i've searched a few reviews, but thought i'd ask here!

Not sure of the spec on a 9000 but I have an RA Nav 6000 which I am wanting to sell if you are interested. PM if you are. Boxed with receipt.

We got a Road Angel Plus for use in the TT when we first hat it and it's been fine for nearly 2 years - only concern I have is that the display brightness can't be adjusted and I find it too bright at night - don't know if that's possible on the RA 9000..
We don't have the extra detector and I don't really see the point because chances are by the time you'd respond to the Laser alarm, unless you're only minutly over the limit it's too late.
Edited:
That said the RA Plus is not a SatNav so the reliance on the display is a different matter to what you're after . LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Had several Road Angels just sold my 6000 and 7000 and upgraded to 2 new 9000 ones cannot fault them they have saved my drivers several times, the camera locations are ace , if you find one that is not on the database you just press the store button and speed and thats it stored. The after sales at Road Angel is also second to none very helpfuk and spare parts and extras are all first class. Once again I cannot faulst them I have used them for 3 years plus better than VDO, Tom Tom, Garmin, Medion, Navtec, I have tried them all we travel 110,000 miles a year with 2 vans and only been caught one on the A40 at 70mph in the van but got away with it saying that we thought we were within the limit at 70, they said it is 60mph in a van and let us off BRILLIANT.

The 6000 does have a day and night mode so the screen can be adjusted. I have had the 6000 for 2 years in January and never had a problem with it. I have paid the £3 or £4 a month subscription and plugged it in to my laptop on the 15th and 30th of each month so it is constantly updated with known camera sites (and blackspot sites). Touch wood, the 2 times I have picked points up in the last 2 years has been when it has been locked in my boot (damn) !
I dont know about connecting it to a laser detector but that said, if you keep it updated then it should warn you in plenty of time about the known site.
I only got my SE 3 weeks ago so have no need for the portable sat nav now and as I am on 6 points already speed limits have to be observed during my 40,000 miles p.a !
If you change you mind let me know.

cheers for your replies! its between a tomtom 540 live and the ra 9000. i know if the laser sensor picks up a laser signal and you are first inline and you are well over speed limit you have been done, wanted it for scatter pickup if you are 2nd or 3rd, and just in case you pick up laser when there is no warning on satnav. i like the option to store new locations too! i have a bell 990 and a valentine 1 just wanted to combine satnav and detector! hhhhmmmm dunno! spend £250+ or to buy 2nd hand!! i shall have a good think! TA!

We got a TomTom 720 in the D3 and that lets you store new locations, so it's not just the RA's LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
