| Road Tyres 255/55/R19's question |

I want a set of road tyres as I have off road ones as well.
I ordered a set of Michelin Latitude Tour XL 's from costco as these seemed good value and a good tyre. They cant get any until October. They have offered me synchrone's instead at £183 fitted.
Should I just go for these or any other suggestions my Scorpions only lasted 18K so was not to impressed.
I also really want the best road tyre for low noise , handling etc

mine had Wranglers on, and I got 38k miles out of those. now running Scorpions, and they seem to be wearing much faster (softer compound I guess). A lot of folks dont lile the goodyears, but I've had them in both 19" and 18" on my D2 and have always been very satisfied.

Looks like they are right the Latitude is short at present, not the most popular tyre in this size for me, cost is quite high.
I have a choice for you as follows;
Toyo @ £107.00
Goodyear HP AW @ £117.00
Pirelli Scorpions @ £134.00
Goodyear F1 @ £167.00
Allow about £25.00 for carriage
All plus VAT and in stock.

Michelin's are very quiet and give excellent milage if you got the deal at Costco, £150ish a corner I'd wait.
Scorpions quiet but wear very fast, lots of people only getting 15K.
Goodyears good allround, just changed mine at 47K and decided to stick with them.
If they are purely for tarmac I'd concider the Vredestien http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m26b0s2182p12457 they are very road biased but a good price (dont look agressive enough on a D3 IMHO)
You pays your money and you takes your choice

Just checking I can get my money back from CostCo then youve sold 4 of the latitutes (Andy).
Ken, Thanks for the info, I would prefer to stay with latitudes if I can get hold of them.

As a Synchrone user, what is the difference with the latitudes?? end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

First thing is the spelling, only joking. 
Syncrones and the Latitude look the same, well quite close but quoting from the Michelin tech guide should NOT be mixed, they state "can cause handling problems"
Compounds and construction differ, can only go by the book.
Most customers who have been with Syncrones would stick with Michelin, so would move on to Latitudes, both drive very well and are almost silent and give good milage from my experiance.
I think the Latitude is a stickier tyre than the Syncrone, grips the road better.
Customers choice at the end of the day, you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink.

I just bought myself an early TDV6 HSE to replace my aging Disco 2, I'm loving it so far, but tyres are due and I wanted some 50/50 tyres to replace them. I used General Grabber AT2's on my old Disco, and they were superb on and off road, and seemed to last forever, even looked new when I sold it.
I've read your posts about the Latitude tyres, but are they an all terrain tyre? I wondered if they were going to be a suitable equivalent to my old Grabber AT2's. I am on a farm, and often tow off road too and have found the grabbers to be essential. The choice in the 19" tyres seems to be very limited. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

have you considered changing over to 17 " or even 18 " for which there is a greater tyre choice ?
A set of 17" alloys would only cost about 100 pounds upwards for which at2's are a popular and easily sourced tyre.Keep the 19's or flog em on.

Latitudes are for road use. IMHO
Get some 18" wheels and fit the General AT2's as you have been happy with them on your D2, I think these are about the best all round tyre available at present, always dodgy to jump ship mid channel.
Have a look and spend some time looking through all the other posts re tyres on D3's, if you need more help feel free to call me, only to happy to give advice and hopefully make a shilling.

OK thanks folks. I really have been pleased with the AT2's, so it's probably good advice to change the wheels. Just didn't really wanna do that as I wanna keep the car original as possible. I had BFG AT's on my defender, so I have tried both now, and I still prefer the AT2's. Much better in the wet, and less prone to clogging in the mud too IMO.
