Yeah mine appears to be nicely over that. The last time I drove it had to be recovered due to repeated P0087 low fuel rail pressure codes. They happened at steady and low revs. So I'm pretty sure it would still do that without the lp pump fuse in so wouldn't really add to the diagnosis I think. Assuming there is no issue in the low pressure side, is there anything else that could cause low fuel rail warnings apart from the hpfp? Is it worth doing an injector leak off test?

Fuel pump module
Excellent piece of work Robbie, have you encountered the later D4 module, without the green strap etc, I’m unable at present to see how it is held to the bottom of tank, I’m loathe to try and force anything for obvious reasons so any further info on removal would be welcome. All the best.
Steve.

Very good writeup Robbie. Very interresting read.
I have some basic questions :
Is there any access to the LPFP from inside the car, without having to drop the tank ?
I happen to have a fuel tank level reading unsteady. Do you have an idea of the connections points (and their location) between the sensor itself and the instrument cluster ?

No, not accessible from inside the car. The tank has to come out to access the fuel level sensors (2)yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

ok. Thanks for the feedback, Prof !
I ordered a pressure gauge to measure accurately the fuel pressure at the inlet of the HP pump.
Depending on this reading, I will drop the tank or not.
Strange enough, the fuel level gauge is oscillating a lot lattely between empty and 1/4 full.
Seems like a poor connection somewhere. I have the opinion I have poor connections in a lot of places on that vehicule...

Does the LPFP pump fuel when ignition on but not engine started? Ive been having what look like HPFP issues (P0003)but want to test the LPFP first. I was away for a few days and now the car will turn over but not start and I'm getting P0191 code now.
Any help or advice much appreciated

Check the two electrical connections to the HPFP and the one on the fuel pressure regulator. Also fuses 4,6, 13, & 17 in the BJB fuse box.
The LPFP will run for around 20s with the ign turned on (no start). If you want to run it independently of the engine for test purposes this can be done via the BJB.
It looks like you bought the incorrect LP fuel tester, they don't all come with a schrader connection. Send it back and have another go!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Thanks for the info. I have done some more diags and with ignition on and not started, i didn't even need the pressure gauge. There is literally nothing at the test point. So its looking like LPFP. Do you know what route the wiring from the JB to the LPFP goes. I have found I have wet carpets and just wonder if there is a solder joint in there that has been compromised, or does the wiring go outside the car?

No the wiring for the lpfp doesn't go via the BCM, although a wet floor doesn't bode well for the car if the BCM get's wet. If the water is just in front of the seat it might be the roof rail sealant has given up and if so it's an easy fix. If it's further into the footwell a blocked sunroof drain (if you have a sunroof) would be the chief suspect.
Either way confirm the leak get it sorted before any damage is done. As for the fuel pump wiring it's carried along with the other engine and gearbox loom. Very unlikely to have a problem unless it's been messed with previously. You can test the supply voltage at the fuse in the BJB fuse box. And and you can power the pump with the ign off with a fused bridge between terminals 3 & 5 when the fuel pump relay is removed. In the pic below you can see the lpfp current draw with the bridge in place.
A word of warning here though, do not make a mistake with this bridge or you will damage the PCM, and you really don't want to do that!

The two red wires in the above image are inserted into terminal 3 & 5 where the fuel pump relay would normally sit. Ignore the other single red lead and piggy back fuse which is powering an accessory.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

You don't need a meter as in the pic to run the pump, just a fused wire will do. If there's no fuel coming through either the fuel filter is blocked, or the pump is dead.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
