Religion is big business in the US, lots of so-called Christian front men make an absolute killing from the hard done by and from the hard of thinking (often the same people, sadly). They also buy a lot of power through their support of Republican representatives.

Of course it's entirely possible that the chap no more believes in the Christian God, or Jesus, or any of the rest of it than I do. He's just a snake oil seller making a mint from the gullible and those in despair. And thus cares not for the idea of sin or about them being found out by a God that doesn't exist.
