Roof boxes
Your advice and help people.
Planning to pop down for New Year to the Alpes. The problem is that we are taking two friends in addition to the 3 girls so a full car load. I don't think that my AutoForm 480 box is going to be big enough. So what's the best option if I were going to buy a new box. A Thule Atlantis 900, or two smaller boxes. We use the standard LR rails and cross bars. Any suggestions?

KAMEI 450 goes on the LR bars using the T Track fastners not much wind noise either

I have a Thule 780 but I wish I'd bought the bigger 900, as far wind noise and lower mpg you would hardly notice its on the car. They have the claw system which locks on to the LR bars in seconds without and tools so it is very easy to fit and remove.Club Exped trailer

jollybodger - if your family is anthing like mine when it comes to taking the minimum luggage (or not...) and seeing as the car will be full of passengers, I agree with Ent. Get as big a box as possible.The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

It's the amount that they always seem to want to take! You tell just essentials but the bags get larger and larger, sounds like the Thule is needed.

I've come to the conclusion, a long time ago, that even if I bought a large bus for my family of 4, my wife would find a way to fill it with luggage, even for a short weekend trip! Enjoy the trip!
With 3 females in the household, I ended up getting a box trailer with about 2 cu m capacity and it STILL ended up full. I drew the line at a generator for the curling irons Jim Dowell - D4 HSE TDi, 12,000 hydraulic winch & hidden winch mount, MTRs, TyreDog, Traxide 2 x aux battery system, fixed air compressor, Dolium roof rack, MitchHitch.

Generator for the curling irons - I can think of MUCH better things to use a generator for Rob Smith

I know this thread is from years back, but I'm just looking at Roofboxes for the first time. I've looked through most if not all the discussions on Roofboxes on Disco3, (e.g. Thanmartinchap - quick advice needed: LR Roofbar spacing for roofbox) and I am homing in on the Kamei Corvara range - but I'm concerned about the amount of over-hang at the front, if I go for a box that is approx. 230cm long - as you know, the standard roof tracks are only on the rear 2/3 s of the roof.
Is this a problem?

We've got a Corvara and it's excellent. It won't overhang and there's minimal wind noise. We got it here, excellent people to deal with:

Thanks for the quick response - do you have the Corvara 390k (@190cm long) or Corvara 475 (@230cm long). It's the overhang from the front fixing point I'm particularly worried about, rather than, say, it overhanging the windscreen. It looks like the nose of the roofbox will extend quite a way from the front roof bar. Am I getting overly concerned that the wind will get underneath it and be constantly trying to lift it as you are driving along...?
