Roof rails. What ones to buy
Get my DC4 on Saturday and I need to extend the roof rails so that I can put my paddle board up there.
Curious which ones to buy. Any recommendations?
I would buy an expedition roof rack but also curious if they give a lot of noise on the motorways.
Also the price on the expedition racks are so high
Cheers

Fitted the black Powrfuluk ones to my D3 a few weeks back and had no issues at all, but they are slightly more expensive than some others on eBay etc... I think some of the cheaper ones need a bit of adjustment but then fit ok, as always it depends on your budget and time.

Ebay... the only issues seem to be the front end plastic covers. You have to be close up to spot any gaps. Think mine were Turborevs. Can look it up if you want. Others on here have bought from them I think..

my experiences of buying from powerfuluk have always been good, they may well be the same products you can find on ebay for a bit less money, but their after sales support is good, much better than you would get through most sellers on ebay etc.
my D4 cross bars arrived quickly, fit perfectly and were reasonably priced2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Hi,
Thanks for your reviews. Very excited to get the DC4 on Saturday .
Still debating on a Exploration rack but the extended rails make more sense for duel
Consumption and noise. Plus Iv 3 roof windows so the rails make more sense.
I can’t go paddling on the SUP’s at the moment so no rush...
Cheers again

Am I right in thinking that the Land Rover cross bars do not fit the powerful rails?

I regularly carry a heavy 15' canoe (and kayaks) on my roof and even though I've got long roof rails, they're absolutely fine on standard roof bar spacing, even with short rails (but obviously the wider spaced the better)
So reckon a SUP won't pose any issues.
Key as always is to have them secured and strapped down adequately.
My long rails are aftermarket and the LR bars fit fine.
DC4 ....... normally known on the forum as a D4 or (Disco4). 🏴

That’s great to know. Will try it on the short rails for now but would feel better with a carbon race sup with spaced out mounts

A Prospeed roof rack is probably better on fuel consumption than roof bars if you were to leave them on all the time.
Usually a lot more to buy though!

I also have the short roof rails and regularly carry a number of longboards. I have a 10" double board bag that I usually have a 9'8" and a 9'4" longboard, have been on journeys of hundreds of miles up and down to France without any issue.
If you want the extended rails, go for it, but you don't NEED to. I had the longer ones on my last D4 and now have the shorter ones - I prefer the shorter ones as the roof step is more pronounced, but that is just me!
