RR Mode and Reversing Camera - Blown 2 x Cameras |
|
Random question for anyone thats done this mod
ive basically copied PeteK installation guide in this thread https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/recomendati...74476.html
only difference is due to the style of RCA/Power Cable both my earth and power are connected to the 12volt socket below the stereo.
The first camera i bought i just thought was faulty as it worked for a few minutes then wouldn't work again. sent it back for another and it was working fine while i was adjusting view etc and testing it out. wife took the kids swimming and said when she went to park up it didn't work. when she returned i noticed that the moulded part of the camera cable where the circuit board is encapsulated was roasting hot.
My question is are these cameras supposed to be powered permanently? I'm sure i read somewhere that if the camera is powered via the reversing light on the D3 it won't work?
This is the camera i bought which i thought was ideal with the amount of adjustment it has!

Just seems strange why two have failed in such a short space of time

how have you connected the earth at the front?
may not be the best idea.
I connected the earth in the tailgate. (brake light or number plate black earth wire)
I haven't had any issues with mine, you could connect it to reverse if you wanted, (piggy back off a fuse behind glovebox?). When you take it out of reverse the display will go black for ~10 seconds.
or maybe its better to try a camera from elsewhere!
and connect earth at tailgate

The earth is hooked into the earth wire on the 12 volt socket under the stereo, the cables i bought had the power cable attached to the RCA so just ran the full cable from rear to the front and wired everything up from there. Cant see why wiring up at the rear or the front will make any difference
It might just be a batch of cheap cameras. Tempted to try one of those mini truck type ones as they look much better quality and a bit more robust, plus all the other fixed type cameras won't allow me to see the tow ball.
