As the big day approaches, I realise I'll have a journey of 160 miles or so when I collect it
any tips for running in etc? 2007 HSE Java Black.....sold

enjoy driving it and keep the revs below whatever it says in the manual.
And I'd check the oil the following morning and then after 500 miles. Some TDV6's seem to use more oil than others. Especially during the first few thousand miles of use.
By some oil from the dealer, they have their own designed for the TDV6 and its not expensive.

Take a run up towards Keswick and drop in past the Gates hotel so that you can start a tab in the bar. Continue to enjoy the scenery and join the M6 at Preston, then hit 'cruise' at 70mph and leave it on until the end of the M74.

runned mine in on a trip home from the dealer.
From the city of Gent - Belgium to the noth-east of the czech republic.
The nicest trip B-CZ I have ever made!!! No regret my airplane seat left unused.
With the D3 its no problem to keep rev low!

Plenty of "B" roads so the revs are continually changing and the engine is exposed to "over-running". I think the Auto is kind as it keeps the torque down, its just up to you to look after the revs.

Just watch you don't prang it on the narrow A593 road from Torver up to Ambleside. Towed the caravan down there on Aug Bank Hol week...Fun [not].
Gets down to single lane at some points and watch out for those very little cars [driven by tourists/OAP's] that take up most of the road.
Survive and Enjoy the D3. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.

Preston is a long way south of Coniston, surely you mean Penrith?

I used to work for a Co. that were responsible for overhauling diesel prime set generators for the MoD, after rebuild we ran them for 2 mins at 0% load to check for rattles then wacked 110% load on them for 6 hours, dropping to 90% load for 18 hours never had one failure in service after that

will probably route via keswick, I know the road well enough having enjoyed a few weekends away with the missus round those parts
Now only 89 hrs to go
(should be there around 10-10:30 ish RP-J)
