Good morning everybody,
I just discovered the new snorkel built by Safari. Eventhough I like the Mantec one better regarding its design, which I think is in a better harmony with the lignes of the disco, I was wondering if the Safari one would be better. Anybody has it fit on his/her vehicule? Does anybody know if this one is better against water ingestion, even if I know that its main use should be against dust? And what about noise or fuel consumption with this one fit to the car: it looks to me less aerodynamic than the Mantec, isn't it?
Thanks. Wonderful day to you all.
See you
Christophe

Chrisophe,
If you go and have a look at the http://www.safari4x4.com.au/docs/snorkel/ss385.htm website you will find the fitting instructions and the snorkel is a real snorkel that is sealed from the air intake to the airbox unlike the Mantec raised air intake.

Chris,
When I look at your gallery, I see that you bought the Mantec model. Is there a pecific reason behind this choice or is it only because the safari one was not available. Would you take the Safari model if you had to change?

Christophe,
I was sick of waiting for the Safari4x4 version(1+ year). Befroe it was finally released I asked Safari4x4 if it was a proper snorkel or raised air intake. I was told by the Marketing Manager it would be sealed by sealant at the guard. This is in fact wrong and lead me to thinking the Safari4x4 version was going to be like the Mantec one and would not be waterproof.
Now that I have seen how the snorkel is fitted is is indeed a real snorkel and not a raised air intake.
The Safari4x4 snorkel is a better chioce for deep river crossings but I spent AUD$600 on the Mantec one and I'll live with it's shortcoming by having a really good think about needing to cross a river which is going to have the intake at the guard below water level for any period of time - this is scary stuff IMO.

I have the Safari snorkel fitted. I had it fitted within days of picking up the Disco so I can't really comment on any change in fuel economy. There is more wind noise around the A pillar at highway speeds but it is hardly intrusive (and I suspect no better or worse than any other similar product).
As per earlier postings it is sealed through to the air filter box.
