hi - am about to tackle the Detent Circlip replacement - I was wondering, does the gearbox need to be in neutral or doesn't it matter?
Thanks !
UPDATE: job done ! A suggestion - to undo the plug, use a double ended 14 / 17mm drain plug key, with a 17mm ratchet spanner on the end - the spanner fits easily down the side of the 'box , makes it easy. I couldn't make Allen keys or socketry fit.
Also, managed to 'firtle' (classic Staffordshire engineering term) the spring and the plunger out with my finger - no need for the magnet - especially as my circlip wasn't broken, just worn... all the protruding lugs were rounded and half the size of a new one.
