2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Buckingham BlueDiscovery 3
[For Sale] Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE 2006 (now £3000)

Location: Wirral.

Buckingham Blue, light tan leather, seven seats. One careful owner from new, 260,000 miles, mostly motorway driving. Very good condition, maintained and serviced by LR main dealer and local specialist Ian Barclay, regardless of expense. MOT until September 2021. Good tyres (Pirelli Scorpion) all round. Bodywork and interior all good except for stonechips on front edge of bonnet/roof, one scratch on passenger door and small tear at side of driver’s seat.

Usual HSE features include dual A/C system, full leather interior, fridge, satnav, Bluetooth (D4 bluetooth module upgrade from ‘Wiggs’).

What sets this car apart from others are the factory fitted options, which include; Bi-zenon headlamps, Rosen DVD player (roof mounted) with remote and two headsets, tinted windows, side steps, TV module, heavy duty towbar and electrics (original removable hitch replaced as a recent recall item), rubber interior mats and boot mat. I will also include in the purchase price a set of roof bars and a Thule roof box, although I might struggle to find the keys!

Recent work includes a new (factory exchange) auto box, steering and suspension work, replaced front-rear A/C pipes, door seals, carpet set, full underbody Waxoyl. New battery January 2018. NB: (update) due to the high mileage, the cam belts and oil pump were replaced in 2019. New parking brake mechanism and A/C compressor fitted also in 2019.

This vehicle has been well cared for and never driven off-road or thrashed. No mods apart from Bluetooth module to improve compatibility with iPhone 6 and later. No remap and still has functioning EGR’s to keep emissions low (Euro 4). No smoke on hard acceleration.

This is a great vehicle, absolutely the best car I have ever owned (which is why I’ve kept it so long), and has been very much part of our family for nearly 14 years including many happy memories with the children as they’ve grown up. It drives very well and is still in ‘light’ regular use but new company car and lack of space on the drive means we reluctantly have to part company. Now just looking for realistic offers around £3000, previously advertised for £6000.

Update: New MOT today 23rd September so not due now until September 2021. Only advisories are 1) slight play in offside front balljoint in anti-roll bar, and 2) rear brake disc worn but not seriously weakened. I've also had the air-con re-gassed. No leaks detected.

Disco 3 2006 HSE (high mileage) Offers around £3000.

Reposting this as the car now really must go! Mileage now over 260,000 but still running well with no smoke. MOT in March 2020. Same spec but just showing a few more signs of age such as a few rust spots above the windscreen, corroded side step and a few small scratches here and there.

Recent bills are for new cam belts and oil pump, new parking brake mechanism and new A/C condenser but I'm at the stage where I can't spend any more money on the car and I need the space on the drive.

Looking for offers around £3000.

Yes the car is still for sale and you do live quite near me so you are welcome to come and see it. Just not this coming week as I'm working away but I will be back on Friday night, so maybe Saturday 19th?

Whether the car is right for you is a different matter. Any high-mileage vehicle carries some risk and things will go wrong. If you can't do the work yourself you will be reliant on either main dealer repairs or an independent specialist. On the other hand, of course, the car could be reasonably trouble-free for another ten years!

This was my main vehicle for work up until three years ago, hence the high mileage, as it was then getting expensive to maintain by main dealer Inchcape in Chester. Last three years I've used the car mainly for local runs and have had work done by Ian Barclay in Birkenhead. They will allow me to buy the parts and they fit, so I only pay labour, but costs for things like EGR valves, cam belts, oil pump, brake discs, park brake mechanism (all jobs done in the last three years) have still cost an arm and a leg.

Would I buy a high mileage Disco myself without access to a workshop and some DIY ability? Probably not! Up to you really!

looks like an excellent example and I think thats a pretty good price. But as you say any old high mileage car is a risk, a Land Rover probably more so.

Sure someone will snap this up.

I do hope so. The old girl has served me and the family well and deserves a good home. One option is to break for parts but that seems a shame when she still runs and drives well.

My first disco 3 purchase was a high miler @ 175k but it drives superb and hasn't let me down (famous last words) If anything I feel somewhat reassured that many problems will have appeared and been rectified before my purchase. I think for the price it's worth a gamble.

Cheers

Thanks @noizeman, I understand all too well the vagaries of running old vehicles and in my life have nursed some ancient stuff all over mainland Europe..... Im interested, the fear is the learning curve for a new marque, this site is an excellent resource though. Catch up when you are back on the peninsula.

If ours was being a nightmare I would snap this up.
You don’t get many one owner cars nowadays, that must knock a lot oF mileage off in my opinion.
We desperately needed a car a few years back and bought a one owner Saab 95 with 235000 miles on it, best car we had and still going well after four years of ownership, then we got the discovery which is now the best car we have ever had and it’s done a 170000 miles. I suppose it depends on what you need it for.

Just going though the bills and noticed the mileage when the new gearbox was fitted was 216,626 at a cost of £4868.74. Current mileage is 260,619 so only 44,000 miles on the gearbox. Explains why it's still a sweet drive!

Car is a runner with a new MOT so must be worth £3000 to someone?
