285/40/22 Laughing . seriously? On a Discovery? It should be okay on a level school playing field, as long as it's dry Laughing

The original D3 came with 17",18" or 19" rims and was supremely capable off-road even on the 19"s. I can't see 285/40/22"s lasting more than 5 minutes on Salisbury Plain.

I of course know that you can spec. a smaller wheel/tyre size, but the very fact that you can order one with 22"s says a lot about the intended customer base. Smile

ETA: Compomotive should be releasing an 18" rim for the D5 in the not too distant future. So the "club wielding, cave men" such as myself will be have a sensible choice and be able to utilise the full ability of what is still one of the best production off-road vehicles.

For those who can't wait, there's a Revere version of the D5 available now, only 23" rims, but that's got to be more "modern" than the 22"s:

Only £750 per rim as well.

Is it my imagination, or have they lowered the car too? All we need now is some undercar neon lights and a body kit and we’re away! Wink

The standard D5 HSE came with 20"'s wheels just as the standard D4 HSE did ...Personally, I prefer 19"s with Duratracs as the ride is better ...as on my D4's ...but you can only get Duratracs in 20" to meet the speed rating ...still the ride should be better than with the low profile Pirelli Verde's so I'm thinking of trying them.

Does the government (police, MOT?) care for speed ratings in UK?

I mean here the maximum legal speed is 120km/h in the summer and 100 km/h in the winter. AFAIK all tires support that. I haven’t heard that they’d be terribly interested in seeing whether your tires are T, W or H rated. They’re interested in knowing how tread is left, though, and sometimes have campaigns to check that.

Having done 500 miles this weekend up to rum and back I have seen shed loads of them, nearly as many as I saw RRS's.
They were not only solo but saw a number towing caravans and trailers, definitely on the increase

I agree that there are lots of D5s appearing now. Still not for me but I understand how many people are buying them as there are few choices of cars that tick these boxes, however offset they might be!

I still hope for a rear end restyle but I accept that it is unlikely. For me it is the third row seats that I need and cars like the Disco Sport and Tiguan Allspace are too inaccessible for this. The Q7 might work (need a look) and the XC90 is probably ok but the engine and option prices don't fully work for me especially as they guide you to 21" and 22" wheels. I'm not a townie so big wheels make little sense.

Keep D3/D4 and buy a secondhand DB9 for fun instead of the horrendous depreciation the D5 will have over a 4 year period.

Sometimes sensible can be far more fun!!! Besides, if you want to do anything more interesting than being an oversized tarmac terrorist the D4 will be better suited.

D4 and DB9 or a D5..... hmmmmm.....

That said despite disliking the cheap interior and rear boot issues there’s a dark green si6 I’ve been seeing for some time now that does look good with a black pack... the design definitely softens the more you see it.

I’ve not yet seen another while I’ve been driving this D5 loaner. Lots of working Defenders, D’s 2 to 4, Range Rovers, Evoque’s and Disco Sports, but no D5’s.

I wonder how many have looked at this one and assumed it’s a sale?
