Keep D3/D4 and buy a secondhand DB9 for fun instead of the horrendous depreciation the D5 will have over a 4 year period.

Sometimes sensible can be far more fun!!! Besides, if you want to do anything more interesting than being an oversized tarmac terrorist the D4 will be better suited.

D4 and DB9 or a D5..... hmmmmm.....

That said despite disliking the cheap interior and rear boot issues there’s a dark green si6 I’ve been seeing for some time now that does look good with a black pack... the design definitely softens the more you see it.

Already have a large engined GT but agree with the statement.

Another month and no new D5's sighted On the road, this makes 4 months since my last sighting.

A quick google check and D5 demonstartors available for purchase has jumped by 20% since i last looked.

Another quick look on April sales figures shows the range rover sport and Velar selling like hot cakes and then the LR model they dont talk about sales figures, is umm, not talked about again?

I wonder when LR will realise that LR loyalist don't want a femine car, designed for yummy mummies going to thier kids saturday morning football.

To be fair, the Disco 5 was their intentional attempt to break out from the traditionalist market and go for the mainstream / yummy mummy / Saturday morning football mums instead. Its been successful, in part; I believe there are plenty of them in and around London and the home counties, with a great many probably doing sterling service on the school run.

It might have done a lot better than has done, if that darn Velar hadn't come along and filled that role rather better and with a great deal more style.

It’s more than obvious, the D5 has the Porsche Boxster problem.

It’s aimed at females and people who don’t have a enough money to by a Range Rover

Can’t afford a Range Rover? Have you looked at the D5 prices, and they’ve went up again, you can easily get one well into Range Rover money.

**STOP PRESS**

There are now 3 D5’s on my road. What’s significant about that? I hear you ask. Well, there are now only 2 D3’s or 4’s including mine, and one of those is a V8 so doesn’t really count!

Analysis of the D5 owners suggests 2 have come from previous LR product, both RR Sport. 1 of those is a JLR employee from Halewood. The other swapped a Q7 for the D5.

No point to make, just observing...

Why spend a fortune on buying a DB9 if you can get a new F-Type for the same money, with guarantee
and 3 yr service included.. .. V6 is just as much fun. From what you safe on maintenance cost you can
go on a trip every month a whole weekend... Whistle

I agree with this to a certain extent. I think they did aim at the yummy mummy as that is a lucrative market, however they just didn't execute it well! For this market, SUVs like the new XC90 are just so much better for this market.

The D5 just falls between two stools, it is not a great D4 replacement, and in the yummy mummy market, there are better designed alternatives. LR aimed between two targets and missed both.

Agreed.

It’s exactly the problem of leaving such a specialist market (that it had previously dominated) and moving into the mainstream; there are so many other manufacturers already doing “mainstream” rather better.

The Volvo is a car that deserves to do well. It’s still a pretty mainstream, road biased, MPV/SUV with some all wheel drive capability, but it still manages to claim the territory, halfway between “BMW/Audi” and “interesting”, as it’s own Thumbs Up
