SAlisbury Plain
Hi all,
I don't know if this is the right forum but I was out tooling around Salisbury Plain this morning in my Green Disco 1 and saw quite a few D3's about.
The first group, including xxxx MUD(nice looking pieceof kit actually must have cost a bob or 40k), seemed to have mudclerb stickers in the rear windows. None of this group even gave me a wave back
The second group were on the route between The Bustard Inn Vadette and Tileshead/Northdown Camp. Very Very friendly bunch waving and taking me photo (the lady probably had never seen a D1 before )
I spoke to one of the party, they were pretending they were lost
Seeing these two parties out on a run had me thinking to myself
How much does one of those D3's cost? Whats the cheapest one going for and do they come in orange? I would off road it if I bought one so would I be mad to do see
CAn someone please give me a D3 101 on buying one pleaseregards

Interesting spot there. The first group you mention is from this forum, as I recognise the registration number. I believe that there were about 20 folk intending to visit the plains this weekend, split into 4 groups.
Take a look at the Events posts to see more details, and probably details of the day when they get back to their computers tonight. Coffeecup

For sure was our lot
And that car is an 'S' with a few post purchase options on it... not quite 40K yet but I'm sure it will be one day eh Si ?
Surprised they never waved back... we all moan here about how no one ever waves back so shame on them
The other group probably were part of the same day out... and you never know your pic may appear here soon
Best advise on a D3 is to go and test drive one. It will leave you wanting it believe me.
take care and your always welcome to post here and join in on the fun days out.
cheers

Hi Tony, Yep that was me with the numberplate and mud-club sticker and no it didn't cost (quite) that much. Must admit to having given up on waving as no-one ever waves at D3s but if I'd seen your wave I'd have definitely returned it.
With regards to buying a D3; as Simon says go and test drive one at your nearest dealer then once you're sure you want one (which you will) work out what you can afford to spend. No orange ones yet unfortunately but we're expecting a special edition to appear later in the year after the G4 has finished, so if you're thinking of buying new hang on until then. If you are thinking of new there are some decent dicounts to be had if you shop around the dealers. For a used one price will obviously depend on spec, mileage etc. but at a quick look on Autotrader shows early base 7 seater (air sprung) models can be had for around £22k, so base 5 seater (coil sprung) ones will probably be a grand or so less and then the cost goes up for higher spec models

Hi Slimer,
I liked the look of your machine. The Tyre on the roof gave it a right "Pro" Look
I am really interested in a D3 but my available funds are £15k tops which leaves no money for toys. I will have to see what a base model wil give me as I like aircon/leather seats/heated front scree/power mirrors.
I would prefer a coiler I believe, based on finance.
I have read a few mesages about computer problems so I do wonder if a D2 would be a better option for off-roading and expedition stuff (spain) MAybe the other members can advise me.
ALso and more importantly The wife wants to know whats so good about a base D3 over an ES/ES Premiun D2.
How good (read low) can these dealer discounts go
I apologise if this is a bit o/t
regards
Tony (D3 wanna be no cash )regards

Tony I was in the group that ignored you , sorry about that I would have waved if I had spotted you waving. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

At least SE spec for you then Tony or possibly an S and get the seats recovered

Coils are only available on the base 5 seater, with coils you don't get all the Terrain Response toys, I'd go for air sprung

There have been issues, 99% of which are easily resoved, D2s are very good but they have their problems too

Can't speak for the coiler but go for a test drive in any spec higher (base 7 seat and up) and take her with you, all her questions should be answered

I'm sure some of the members that have purchased D3s more recently can help answer that

Suss out the repayments on the LR Freedom finance - I was buying a 17 grand motor outright before this one - and was able to step up to nearly 33 grand for just over a ton a month more! If you're creative, and probably not buying one for keeps (who does that?) it CAN be done! Best of luck anyway - I'm sure you'll work it out, it IS VERY worth it! Hi Tony,
The second, friendly bunch, included two RR sports but when we saw you, you may have mistaken us for big brown blobs.
Actually the first bunch are very friendly too but we always wave, we are from the west country, so it comes naturally – mostly due to cider induced stupidity.
(What’s the emoticon for demented arm fanning?)
Nice to see you today.RR Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red (Rimini Brown at events), 20" wheels (19's for events), PTI, towpack. FBH installed!!

Hi Tony.
Im one of the guilty from the first party I bought mine off the Autotrader and managed to get an SE for less money than dealers wanted for an older S.I can resist everything except TEMPTATION
Can Am Commander 1000XT
Seen the light and bought a 4Motion T5
I was in that group too, and like Slimer and Andrew, I apologise for the solecism of missing your wave and not returning it. In my defence, I did wave at a couple of freelanders encountered on the byeways and it might have been at the time I was fussing about something squealing on my front O/S brakes.
I've almost given up flashing/waving at D3s on 'normal' roads round here, perhaps we ought to have a more noticeable disco3 front windscreen or bumper sticker to help id those of a like-mind?
