My Sankey Trailer Camper Project
Hi all,
Well I now have the trailer, so will post pics and my plans on here - Probably won't start for a few weeks, but like Beanie I plan a box that can be removed from the trailer so that i can use as a normal trailer
Won't be as detailed or complex as some of the build on here, but I like the idea of all the cooking stuff in there, storage, cooker, water tanks, electrics, perhaps even running water
Long-term the plan is to stick a roof tent on top, but these are blinking expensive So thanks to Gordon's suggestions, I may look at making my own roof tent....how hard can it be
Anyway, a cuple of pics......may be a little while before any updates as I need to get rid of the jeep first before I can really get down to the hard work

The Box - Ordering some 25mm box section coming next week or so, will cut to size and a mate will weld (Thanks Greg for giving me your dims )
So plan is for something like this to give an idea
Weight of box and contents may be a problem, but I'm thinking of a winch system in the garage to lift it off the trailer....early days yet though
Cheers

Ieuan, there is enough room to angle the front as I have on mine and still fit a RT.
It just stops it being a brick, mines built for my 1.6m RT, side mounted, so unless you fancy the full on big boy of tents like Ent you can shape it a little Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Aha thanks Greg, yes mine would certainly look like a brick....can see what you mean I've still got your plans, so may yet change mine
I may yet make my own RT, as the £1000 or so is a load of money Iggy/Ieuan

You can tell me about it tomorrow
Also I collected my Sankey today thanks to Moo. Not as good as condition as yours but will be going under a complete strip down
As you can see it did not quite fit into the trailer

Well I blame Gordons....but the more I think about it, the more I believe it's possible to make a RT....essentially it could end being a normal tent but mounted in a box structure that closes down on top of the trailer. Or I start from scratch and buy Gortex and make my own tent....been researching and there are quite a few builds out there in the WWW.....keep watching this space
Well So much going on in the head at the momment, just back from the pub where 6 pints of Doombar were consumed as well as 1 x Penderyn - I was celebrating as the JEEP SOLD!!!!!!!
He's coming Sat to pick up and I now have a slightly larger budget than I planned
Met with a couple of engineer mates tonight and I'm now thinking of adding feet/legs to the box that will sit on the Sankey, so I can pull the trailer out from underneath the box for normal trailer use, then back it under for camping.....again, still early days
See you tomorrow Simon, that trailer looks the business Iggy/Ieuan

Did two loads and carried: 2 x 3 seater sofa's, wardrobe, double bed, 3 x single matresses, wardrobe, chest of draws, swivel chair, small fridge and a host of other things....
The combination of Sankey and D3 with seats down are unbeatable Iggy/Ieuan

So the first update is this:

Waved off the jeep on Saturday, I now have the space and funds to commence work on the trailer
Took the tub off at the weekend (It’s heavy - didn’t have the camera though sorry) and was pleased to see that the tub is in real great condition, with only really a few rust spots on the tailgate. Underneath is excellent, so I put it back on – pic of my son helping:

I wire brushed the rust areas, before treating and painting over with some Hammerite I had handy….but liked the colour, so tried it out on the side of the trailer, was planning to paint it Nato green, but am now torn between that and the below colour:

SWMBO likes the Blue, Jack (oldest) likes the idea of a Black trailer and Harry (youngest) wants NATO Green – I’m open to either, Black does sound good though - found this on the web
What do you think?
Finally getting round to ordering the box section today, so should have more updates next weekend Iggy/Ieuan
