Does anyone know what either the standard or premium systems do if you take your D3 out of the area on the DVD (for example if we take it to Morocco or Iceland with a Europe DVD)?
Just looking at some ideas for the hols!

Our problem is that the car was built with the standard system when we had ordered the premium, and we're trying to find out exactly what we're missing.
We have no voice recognition.
We have no TMC (but Gurvan says that doesn't work in France).
There is no 4x4 info (which would would have been useful to see what was going on the other day when I got the car stuck in the garden - nasty splote, with rain and loads of mud that I had difficulty standing up in). We would also like to be able to be a bit more adventurous than staying in Europe! If the premium nav system still doesn't work unless you stick another DVD in (is there one for Africa?) then we're not so badly off as we are.
What to do???

The 4x4 info is good as it shows what is going on such as direction of front wheels, diifs, wheels in the air etc. The off road sat nav is a WOT, so I don't think you've missed out that much, but can you negotiate compensation with the dealer?DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

They are prepared to replace the car, but we have already thought about what to do in the summer, and if the lack of 4x4, TMC, voice recognition, off-road (boo-hoo, that sounds like a long list ) is not too serious, perhaps we will keep the car, which is otherwise great (OK, it has a suspension warning problem and an alarm problem, or rather it did when it was cold!)
We would like to take it to e.g. Morocco or Iceland, which are not on the DVD. Will we still need a handheld GPS to know where we are?

There are many aftermarket sat nav options that improve slightly on the LR version and provide world-wide off-road coverage.
The 4x4 info is great but is just a gadget. Fasinating to watch for passengers but only glanced at occasionally if you're driving
Not found a reason to use the off-road nav yet so can't really comment but without the ability to upload/download routes it's not going to be too much use,
Voice control is excellent and worth every penny of the £500 extra cost of Enhanced over Standard navThe End

Yes, I think it could be that I miss the most, but is it worth another 10 week wait? ... or how much compensation? ... or what to do "out in the sticks" instead? An Australian colleaguie showed an excellent pc based system the other day, which he uses in his D2

As far as I know from my investigations you cannot retro fit a car with a premium system. I asked about it half a year ago when I took delivery of my car, it has the standard system. I live in Azerbaijan and we do a huge amount of off roading where the off road Nav system would be worth it's weight in gold. In answer to your question about going outside the DVD range, the screen goes a plain light blue. The cursor is still there and of course it continues to move but it is like a ship in the middle of the ocean surrounded by nothing! Pretty boring to be honest.
Thanks for that rhcapsian! Just what I was frightened of.
LR have also confirmed to me that the system cannot be retrofitted. I thought it would almost be only a question of another DVD and perhaps a sensor or two, but apparently it needs a completely different wiring/optical loom!
What do you use in Azerbaijan then? Must be interesting there.

When some people says that the screen goes blank (Err, Blue...) ? Does that apply to the off-road mode with its waypoints, tracks and so on or ONLY to the "On Road" mode ?
I would say that the "Off-road" mode should be ok... But I am not sure if I am making myself clear...
That's what I really want to know, since we have been delivered standard instead of premium, which we ordered so that it would work "off-dvd". Nobody seems to know whether this is the case or not though!
I can understand it if the on-road stops - seems reasonable: no info on dvd=no map, but since the off-road mode still has some map info such as contour lines (doesn't it?), does this stop too. Has nobody been out of their area?!
