My D3 sat nav has not been working for a few years now so decided to try a cleaning disc with no luck so removed unit from under seat with the intention of sending away for repair but got left in boot for awhile anyway decided to reinstall unit with casing removed and i could see that the disc was not rotating so I pushed it round with my finger and after a few times it got going and has been working fine ever since also the voice control is working well sort of .

Long time since that post above but a similar problem. My sat nav keeps saying no Map DVD fitted so I’ve tried the updates I bought plus both the originals back to 2011. It’s a 2009 HSE. When I installed the original DVD it did recognize it for all of 5 minutes then packed up so I have no sat nav at alll now. Is it possible to clean the sat nav unit as I bought a cleaning CD/DVD but nothing happened when I inserted it.
Do I have to remove the unit and clean it myself?

When I say cleaned I mean by one of those cd/dvd cleaning disks?

You can open it up and clean the head with a cotton bud and alcohol if you want

Have a search on here, there's a couple of really good threads explaining exactly what's involved and what model D4 unit to look for. Very easy and a great upgrade.
Key thing is to get an early D4 unit with the integral HDD (so does away with the CD drive under the passenger seat).

The nav is so much better (I think)
And easier to add a reverse camera (as long as you have an iid)

Yes, I have an IId tool but I don’t have a great record of rewiring things. I once almost blew up a house in Greece leaving the occupants, who were friends, without any source of energy for 3 days. My mates wife just thinks I’m lovely ( not).
