Presumably this only interfaces to the ECM?
Not sure that "You can also turn off the “Check Engine†light and avoid those costly trips to the mechanic" wouldn't result in even more costly repairs from an ingnored chain of faults...

Very interesting Dave...
But are you sure that this works when the D3 engine is running? I seem to remember that there's quite a few tools available to read OBDII codes, but that they all stop working once the engine is actually running due to encryption issues - I mean that they cannot read dynamic data from the ECU - only static data whilst the engine is off (whether the ignition is on or off). This obviously doesn't apply to IDS or Autologic that do work on dynamic data.
Most of the info available is already present (one way or another) in the D3 message centre (fuel cons/revs/speed/range etc).
The 'turn of engine light' - does this just mean reset/delete all DTC fault codes?
I think it could be limited as a diagnostic tool, but could maybe be cool just to provide a bit more info to the driver, although I wouldn't want the OBDII cable plugged in whilst driving (I've got big knees ).

The OBDII socket is on the edge of the trim near the brake pedal, so your knees shouldn't be an issue!!

It was a joke and my knees were the only thing I could think of that would get in the way of the cable whilst driving....I didn't want to start suggesting that I'd have something else dangling around all the way down there 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

I have a laptop based OBD tool and they are useful to see what the problem is, i.e O2 sensor failures etc. It also has a scope so you can read levels of sensors, fuel trims etc etc.
I wouldn't bother having it permanently installed as it only gives basic engine info. I only bought mine as I kept getting O2 sensor faults on my Alfa and it enabled me to find out which one had failed so I could change it. If you reset the engine light it will only come on again unless you fix the fault.

Dave can you shed some light on the Xgauge as mentioned on the Scanguage website. Is it an additional extra or is it some sort of software enhancement to the existing hardware

off the top of my head.... I understood after a certain date they shipped them with updated x software.
If you have the old software they can update if for a small fee.
Just had a look at the site....there is a bit on there which shows the additional features, there seems to be a huge amount of data that it can retrieve (I dont have the x guage features)
