scorpion wear excessive ?

Since the opinion is Scorpions don't last, is this because they are soft, in which case they therefore should be good on hard packed snow and ice ? - or doesn't it work that way.

Scorpions performed amazingly well on Salisbury Plain on Sat. Several D3's had them fitted. Iirc, Sturge said that his were also quite worn.

They went everywhere that those shod with AT's & MTR's went with little or no extra drama.

They are a soft compound, hence the wear rate.

Imo, they give the D3 the best on road steering feel & accuracy.

I'll try the Pirelli ATR's next though, to see what they're like.

Punctures are down to luck (or lack of it) though of course the amount of tread does help.

I've run my D3 on Goodyear HP's, Goodyear MTR's & Pirelli Scorpions.

I tend to get just under 20k miles, from a set of Scorpions.

Some get more or less, all depends on your driving style & use.

For a softish compound tyre, with (IMO) excellent grip & trction in all weathers, I think the wear rate is fine.

But as I've said before, I'm used to tyres lasting between 5-12k miles on big bhp sports saloons.

Or a full set per track day Shocked .

I've always sworn by Scorpions and I too have driven all over Salisbury plain with them, but this year I have found them wanting on my new shoot. Once on clay (I think this can happen even to MTRs) and then just in wet mud. I will be changing to ATRs when I have worn these out. On road I think they are great, much better than Wranglers because they don't get that wheel bearing rumble noise that Wranglers get after about 10k

I just put a set of ATR's, 18' on yesterday. The noise from the OME Wranglers finally got to me. They had only done 33,000 kms, still had 3mm from wear bars, but outside and inside edges scrubbed.

The last 500 kms have been unbearable with the road noise. I take off today with the camper trailer, so we will see how the new boots go.

29000 miles and 3mm left on my scorpions, mixed motoring. I have always wondered if a manual or auto make any difference to wear rates, don't why it should but a previous Auto , not a D3, always seemed to wear out tyres quicker.
Never punctured the first set, only had the second set on a day when a horse shoe nail broke that duck.

Scorpions, for me, have a better road feel than Wranglers. Having had both on my car I will not run another set of Wranglers. Offroad both work. You get through the mud/gravel and snow. Although I must admit the wranglers did impress me when driving offroad in the snow on Sunday.

Scorpions would be my choice so I'm fitting MT/R's next week Whistle Mr. Green

My Scorps were fine on Salisbury Plain and the over the Peak District BUT they wore fast - down to 3 or 4 mm after 13000 miles - they've spent the last 20 months sat in the garage ready for when the car is returned
